Job summary

Lawrence University invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre in Lighting and Sound to begin in Fall 2026. The position focuses on teaching lighting and sound design, production systems, and production design across multiple courses.

Responsibilities include teaching one course per term, coordinating guest designers, mentoring student designers, and supervising tech rehearsals and performances while managing respective budgets.

Qualifications

• Required MFA or MA with college-level teaching experience.
• Specialization in lighting and/or sound design is preferred.
• Experience coordinating and teaching production design courses is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Teach: Production systems (lighting and sound) each term.
• Teach Production Design each term.
• Teach sound and lighting design biennially.
• Teach Advanced Design Studio or develop a new course biennially.
• Coordinate pre-production and on-site activities for 1-3 guest designers each year.
• Guide sound and lighting lab students and student employees in conjunction with the Production Manager (approx. 12 hours per week).
• Attend weekly production meetings and mentor student designers.
• On-site supervisor for all tech rehearsals and performances.
• Manage production budgets in area of responsibility.
