JOB DESCRIPTION: A full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track, benefits-eligible position. The assignment will include teaching the history of Western Musical Traditions sequence for undergraduate music majors, undergraduate/graduate elective musicology courses, and music courses in general education. Areas of specialty are open but ideal candidates will be able to demonstrate proficiency in a range of topics, historical methods, and theoretical perspectives. The usual teaching load will be three, three-credit classes each semester with an expectation in research and a reasonable contribution in service. Participation in School of Music activities, recruitment and retention of students, and faculty governance is required. Active participation in scholarly organizations in the field is expected.

Qualifications

The School of Music within the College of Creative Arts and Media at West Virginia University invites applicants to apply for a Visiting Assistant Professor position. The successful candidate must be prepared and qualified to teach History of Western Musical Traditions 1 and 2, music courses in our general education program based on the needs of the School of Music, individual experience and interest, and upper-division musicology courses. Opportunities to teach at the graduate level may be available depending on the successful candidate's qualifications. Although all areas of scholarship are welcome, we are particularly seeking a creative, dynamic teacher interested in Western musical traditions. An earned master's degree or ABD doctoral status is the minimum educational level required for this position, although a Doctorate is preferred. The School of Music seeks a candidate who will demonstrate exemplary communication skills, collegiality, and the ability to contribute to the intellectual and cultural life of the University.
