Job Description Summary
MUSIC – Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Education: Oakland University’s School of Music, Theatre and Dance invites applicants for a Visiting Assistant Professor in Music Education position with specialization in: 1) general/elementary with MM graduate music ed. coordinator duties, OR 2) string specialist, with duties in chamber orchestra and/or string techniques, beginning August 15, 2025 through August 14, 2026 with annual renewal of contract subject to approval.
Primary responsibilities: teach undergraduate and graduate coursework in music education and/or string area. Other possible assignments (e.g. MM graduate music education coordinator) would be based on candidate’s qualifications/interests.
Position requirements: terminal degree (or ABD ) in music education, orchestral conducting, or music performance (strings). Preferred qualities: 1) university-level experience as a teacher (undergraduate and graduate), conductor, or performer, 2) demonstrated success in recruiting, and 3) experience with graduate level teaching and MM advising in music education. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue growth and success in their research / creative activity, while maintaining a strong commitment to teaching, recruiting/retention, and service to the field.
