Job Description: Visiting Assistant Professor of History

Marian University-Indianapolis's Department of History and Global Studies seeks qualified applicants for a Visiting Assistant Professor of History position starting August 15, 2025. The role supports our Catholic Franciscan mission by fostering student learning through innovative pedagogy, inclusive practices, and impactful research.

The successful candidate will teach courses including a general education American civics course, U.S. History I and II, Indiana History, and others as designated by the Chair. While expertise is open, preference is given to candidates specializing in American History. We encourage applications from those interested in interdisciplinary teaching and research.

Fluency in a second language, especially Spanish or Kiswahili, is preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Engage with the Marian University Catholic Franciscan mission and identity, modeling Franciscan values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation.
  2. Teach a load of 24 Credit hours.
  3. Contribute to department and college activities and projects.
  4. Mentor students through advising, research, and internships.
  5. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  1. MA in History, Global Studies, or equivalent; Ph.D. preferred.
  2. Evidence of effective teaching in higher education.
  3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  4. Knowledge of and commitment to Marian University's mission.
