Position Title: Visiting Assistant Professor of Counseling and Therapy (Graduate)

Reports To: Chairperson of the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department

Position Summary:

The Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Manhattan University invites passionate educators and clinicians to join our community as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Clinical or Counseling Psychology. We welcome applicants from all areas of Mental Health Counseling to teach in our thriving graduate programs, with special consideration for those with expertise in alcohol and substance misuse, treatment, and recovery. This is an in-person, on-campus, non-remote position.

Responsibilities:

Your impact as an Assistant Professor, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Shape future counselors through teaching in our Marriage & Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, and School Counseling graduate programs
  • Create supportive learning environments that prepare students for clinical practice
  • Guide professional development through academic advising and mentorship
  • Connect theory to practice by overseeing practicum and internship experiences
  • Build community partnerships with local clinical sites
  • Advance counseling knowledge through an active research program involving student researcher
  • Ensure program excellence through accreditation and assessment activities
  • Contribute to our community through departmental, school, and university service

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Counseling or Clinical Psychology or related field
  • ABD candidates will be considered if they are on track to complete their doctorate by or before the date of hire
  • Candidates must be eligible for New York State licensure by or before the date of hire
  • This role requires on-site attendance
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentoring graduate students
  • Established research program with potential for student involvement
  • Clinical expertise that diversifies our department's strengths
  • Experience with alcohol and substance misuse treatment (preferred)
