The IU South Bend Department of Music Department is comprised of a dedicated community of artists, scholars, and students. As part of the Raclin School of the Arts, we offer students a personalized interdisciplinary experience. We are proud of our talented, internationally known faculty and small-class settings. At IU South Bend, music students can pursue their interests in performance, composition, music education, and/or music technology through our degree and diploma offerings, including our Bachelor of Music in Performance or Composition, Bachelor of Music Education, Bachelor of Arts in Music, Master of Music in Performance or Composition, and our Performance and Artists Diplomas. The department is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Music, specializing in Voice, to start on August 1, 2025. The responsibilities include:
- Teaching a full-time load per semester (twelve credit hours), with 25% FTE reassigned time for scholarly and creative activities following campus policies. This includes undergraduate and graduate applied voice lessons and related courses such as opera workshop, diction, song repertoire, and vocal pedagogy, as assigned by the Music Department Chair. Note that faculty may need to teach during evenings, weekends, off-site, and/or online.
- Overseeing the voice area, coordinating various affiliate voice studios, including those serving the Music Theatre program. This includes providing input on curricular decisions related to the voice area, including the Bachelor of Music Education - Choral Concentration, and fostering performance opportunities such as studio concerts, opera scenes productions, and supporting the campus’s partnership with the South Bend Lyric Opera (SBLO).
- Recruiting voice majors and growing the program.
- Developing a research trajectory as a tenure-track faculty member and disseminating scholarly and creative activities through performance, presentation, and/or publication relevant to their specialty.
- Serving the department, college, campus, and community by regularly attending and participating in faculty meetings, vocal juries, performance exams, and serving on relevant committees.
