Job Summary

The School of Education at the University of Southern Mississippi invites applicants for a one‑year, full‑time, non‑tenure track Visiting Assistant Professor position beginning in August 2025 with requirements to be physically present on the Hattiesburg and/or Gulf Coast campuses. The Elementary Education faculty provide training to initial and advanced teaching licensure candidates in Elementary Education. We seek candidates whose experience includes bridging research and practice in P‑12 elementary education, literacy and/or mathematics education, special education, culturally inclusive education, assessment, and clinical supervision. We aim to recruit applicants with a background in Curriculum and Instruction who will support the Elementary Education programs including a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction (Elementary Education). Program delivery includes face‑to‑face, online, and hybrid formats.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Teaching and mentoring students.

Minimum Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Elementary Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or closely related field (by August 2025).
• Two (2) or more years of full‑time teaching experience with standards‑based curriculum in a P‑12 classroom.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, allowing for effective and timely engagement.
• Ability to work with teams in multiple settings.
• Experience with online learning platforms.
• Experience setting clear performance expectations and providing meaningful feedback.

Preferred Qualifications

• An earned doctoral degree.
• Experience with literacy, mathematics, or special education.
• Experience leading others in implementing evidence‑based instructional practices in P‑12 settings (e.g., academic coach, district curriculum lead, professional learning community leader, or settings with students who have high incidence disabilities).
• Experience incorporating technology in instruction and assessment.
