The Department of Chemistry at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) invites applications for two, 10-month, non-tenure-track Visiting Assistant Professor positions, starting August 2025. The successful candidates will have an advanced degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related field with qualifications and strong interest in teaching General Chemistry, Biochemistry, and/or Organic Chemistry. We invite applicants who are committed to high-quality teaching, deep student engagement, and have a strong commitment to teaching pedagogies in lecture and laboratory settings which promote academic excellence for all students regardless of high school preparation. We also encourage applications from candidates with a wide range of professional backgrounds and personal paths. Each candidate is encouraged to share with the committee their unique pathway in their application materials.
Teaching responsibilities may include Organic Chemistry, General Chemistry, Biochemistry, and/or our General Organic Biochemistry (GOB) course for nursing students. Other teaching opportunities may be available, depending on the applicant's specific training and expertise. Ideal candidates should have experience with high-impact teaching pedagogies that use active learning and student-centered approaches, and laboratory instruction that focuses on inquiry-based learning. The Department continues to enhance its laboratory curriculum in General and Organic Chemistry and to create a meaningful curriculum for nursing students through its GOB course curriculum.
