Friends Central School, a Quaker independent day school near Philadelphia, seeks a 12-month Middle School Principal to lead grades 6–8 and partner with families and faculty to sustain a joyful, engaging learning environment.

The candidate will articulate a clear vision for the Middle School program, supervise faculty, and oversee curriculum, student support, enrollment efforts, and community partnerships in alignment with our mission.

Qualifications

• Masters degree in an academic subject field or in education.
• 5-7 years of experience as a teacher and leader at the middle school level.
• Experience with faculty leadership, supervision, and mentorship.
• Commitment to Quaker values and an appreciation for Quaker education.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence to work collaboratively with students, families, faculty, and administrators.
• Excellent organizational and logistical skills, with a track record of managing complex daily operations, schedules, and school-wide events smoothly.
• Strategic vision and forward-thinking perspective to support Middle School growth in alignment with the mission of the school.
• Thoughtful, reflective leadership style with a sense of humor, warmth, and joy in working with all constituencies.

Responsibilities

• Lead as a member of the senior administrative team and collaborate with division leaders.
• Articulate and advance a clear, compelling vision for the Middle School program grounded in the school's mission and Quaker values.
• Foster an inclusive, nurturing environment that honors student voice and belonging.
• Oversee curriculum development and program implementation for grades 6–8.
• Supervise faculty through classroom visits, feedback, and formal evaluation processes.
• Support faculty growth through professional development and collaborative learning.
• Coordinate onboarding and mentorship of new Middle School faculty.
• Oversee hiring in partnership with HR and administrators.
• Manage faculty staffing and budgeting for the Middle School.
• Partner with Student Success & Wellbeing, parents, and the community to support student growth and behavior expectations.
• Collaborate with Enrollment Management and Admissions on recruitment and retention.
