Job summary

Bowdoin College Library in Brunswick, Maine seeks a transformative Director to advance strategic priorities and elevate teaching, research, and access services in a premier liberal arts setting.

The Director will lead a 43-staff team, guide collaborations across campus, and steward a multi-million dollar budget while shaping space planning for a new or renovated facility. Start date Feb 1, 2027, with a competitive salary range and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent.
• Accomplished librarian with progressive leadership in library administration.
• Experience leading strategic plans and staff development.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic vision, direction, and leadership for the Library.
• Recruit, supervise, evaluate, and develop outstanding staff, fostering cooperation across functional areas.
• Lead planning and implementation of the library components of the campus master plan, including new or renovated facilities.
• Collaborate with faculty and academic administrators to support academic programs, instruction, and student learning.
• Oversee all operating, general, and endowed budget lines and plan annual budgets with long-term needs in mind.
• Provide leadership on emerging technologies, publishing, open access, copyright, and compliance with ALA/FDLP standards.
• Represent Bowdoin in consortia and pursue cooperative/resource-sharing with other libraries and repositories.
• Partner with Development and Alumni Relations on donor relations.
• Contribute to institutional leadership and perform other responsibilities as assigned.
