Job summary

Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine seeks a Director of the Library to provide strategic leadership and oversee all library operations. The role includes guiding staff, budgets, and long-range planning while advancing teaching, learning, and scholarship across campus.

The Director will collaborate with faculty, participate in governance, and drive initiatives on open access, copyright, and digital initiatives within Bowdoin College Library.

Qualifications

• Leadership experience in library administration and strategic planning.
• Proven ability to lead staff, manage budgets, and collaborate with campus partners.
• Experience with open access, copyright, and scholarly publishing in higher education.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic vision, direction, and leadership for the Library.
• Recruit, supervise, evaluate, and develop staff across functional areas.
• Lead planning and implementation of library components of the campus master plan, including facilities.
• Collaborate with faculty and administrators to support programs, instruction, and scholarship.
• Oversee operating, general, and endowed budget lines and annual budgeting.
• Provide leadership on emerging technologies and information distribution standards.
• Represent Bowdoin in consortia and professional organizations; pursue resource-sharing.
• Partner with Development on donor relations.
• Contribute to institutional leadership and perform other responsibilities as assigned.
