Job summary

UMass Boston seeks a tenure-system Associate or Full Professor to serve as Chair of the Exercise & Health Sciences Department. The Chair will provide strategic and administrative leadership, advancing research productivity, external funding, and national visibility.

Ideal candidates demonstrate transformational leadership, engagement with campus and external communities, and a strong record of mentoring faculty and growing research programs. Prior administrative experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• PhD/terminal degree in kinesiology, exercise sciences, rehabilitation sciences, behavioural sciences or related field.
• Evidence of leadership roles in academic settings (e.g., program director, associate chair, division lead).
• Sustained program of research with peer-reviewed scholarship and external funding.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and administrative leadership to advance the department's mission.
• Oversee research productivity, external funding, and national visibility.
• Lead undergraduate and graduate programs and strengthen collaborations.
• Oversee budgets, personnel, curricula, and long-term strategic planning.
