Job summary

Spring Lake Township is seeking a visionary Community Development Director to oversee planning, zoning, building inspection, code enforcement, grant management and long‑range planning. You will report to the Township Manager and supervise the Assistant to the Community Development Director and contract staff while guiding the Master Plan and development reviews.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in urban planning or related field, five years in a planning/development role with supervisory

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in urban planning or a related field.
Five years of experience in a planning or community development department, including supervisory/administrative experience.
Valid Michigan Driver’s License; AICP certification desirable.

Responsibilities

Plans, organizes, and directs all departmental operations including personnel, budgeting and general administration.
Develops annual budgets for Building Department operations and capital projects.
Acts as zoning administrator and enforces zoning/building codes and land-use regulations.
Oversees grant writing and administration and ensures deadlines are met.
Supervises the Assistant to the Community Development Director and contract staff.
Represents the Township on planning, zoning and community development matters.
