Job summary

La Joya Independent School District seeks a Special Education Teacher for the Visually Impaired to plan and implement an individualized program supporting VI students. You will provide direct instruction, assess needs, and coordinate resources under the supervision of the Campus Principal/Special Education Director.

The role requires collaboration with parents, ARD teams, and staff to develop comprehensive IEPs, transcription to Braille or large print, and diligent record-keeping.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with valid teaching certificate and Special Education certification/endorsement.
• ESL and/or Bilingual Certification.
• Certified by the Texas Education Agency to Teach the Visually Impaired.
• Knowledge of VI instruction, current educational theories, and compliance with laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Administer functional vision, learning media, and technology assessments.
• Provide direct instructional services per IEP for VI students.
• Order Braille material.
• Supply VI-specific equipment to classroom teachers and assist with registration for VI services.
• Transcribe lessons into Braille or large print.
• Maintain accurate records (grades, attendance, ARD, modifications/ accommodations).
• Plan and develop IEPs with campus staff and related service providers.
• Attend ARDs for students on caseload.
• Provide instruction to individual students and collaborate with parents and staff.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information and adhere to policies.
