Job summary

HORRY COUNTY SCHOOLS seeks a Teacher of the Visually Impaired to plan and implement instructional programs addressing the learning needs of visually impaired students; to guide and encourage in achieving educational potentials in curricular and extracurricular activities.

The role involves collaborating with regular and special education personnel, parents, and others to support programs; ensuring timely provision of large-type or braille texts and adapted materials; and conducting assessments

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
• Certification as required by the state of South Carolina in the field of the Visually Impaired.
• ACVREP Orientation & Mobility certification preferred.
• Other professional qualifications as deemed necessary for acceptable fulfillment of assigned responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialized instruction and services required to meet the unique educational needs of visually impaired students.
• Develop and utilize a variety of learning materials and resources to support learning at varying progress levels.
• Use relevant technology to support instruction.
• Observe and evaluate student performance and progress.
• Assist students, parents and educators in interpreting visual impairment implications and outcomes of assessments.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers and other staff to support programs and services for visually impaired students.
