Job summary

Jefferson-Lewis-Hamilton-Herkimer-Oneida BOCES seeks a certified Teacher of the Blind and Visually Impaired to deliver specialized instruction aligned with each student’s IEP and curriculum in daily lessons.

You will collaborate with general and special education staff, attend IEP meetings, assess and report on progress, and use assistive technology to maximize participation and learning in a supportive classroom.

Qualifications

• Valid NYS Certification as Teacher of the Blind and Visually Impaired is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide and coordinate specialized instruction through daily lessons aligned with the curriculum and the student’s IEP.
• Consult with classroom teachers, regular and special education personnel, parents, and students to coordinate programs and services for visually impaired students.
• Coordinate supplementary materials, educational aids, and equipment to maximize participation in classroom activities.
• Instruct in development and maintenance of IEP-indicated skills: low vision, visual efficiency, concept development, academic, daily living, communication, social/emotional, and sensory-motor skills.
• Collaborate with IEP team to develop student goals and services.
• Attend IEP and required staff meetings.
• Conduct and interpret functional vision/learning assessments and complete written reports.
• Compile and analyze data on student progress and use data to adjust interventions.
