Program and Role Summary

Wayfinder’s Special Education School offers children and youth, ages 5 to 22, who are visually impaired or have moderate-to-severe disabilities a safe, positive environment for learning and growth. In the least restrictive environment in our state-certified, non-public school, teachers develop students’ communication, mobility and functional skills to increase their independence.

The primary focus on the Virtual Speech Language Pathologist, is to provide virtual speech therapy services to children from 5 to 21 years of age. The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) is a critical member of the school team, responsible for providing assessment, diagnosis, and intervention for students with communication disorders. The SLP designs and implements evidence-based therapy plans to address speech, language, voice, fluency, and social communication difficulties. This includes creating and monitoring Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), delivering direct therapy, and consulting with teachers and families to support students’ communication needs in the classroom and beyond.

This is a part-time position, budgeted for 20 hours/week.The Speech Language Pathologist is fully remote and can work anywhere in the United States. However, valid California state licensure and certifications are required.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide appropriate intervention to children 5 to 21 years of age that exhibit severe motor delays with atypical or scattered skills or atypical tone, several global delays, moderate to severe feeding delays or disorders, and/or severe sensory challenges
  • Participate in the development and implementation of each child’s Individual Individualized Education Plan (IEP) in collaboration with the family and education team, providing documentation as required by Local Education Agency.
  • Use a variety of therapeutic techniques and tools, such as play-based therapy, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices, and digital resources to engage students and meet diverse learning needs.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and aides to embed communication goals into the curriculum, creating opportunities for students to practice skills in natural settings.
  • Must be able to utilize phone and computer software to provide telehealth visits (treatment, zoom, conference calls, etc.).
  • Other duties as outlined in the position description.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • A master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology is required.
  • California state licensure and certification as required (e.g., Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from ASHA) is required.
  • Minimum one year experience as a speech therapist, working with infants/children is required.
  • Experience working in multi-cultural situations preferred.
  • Experience working with children or in an educational setting preferred.
