Paraprofessional (Face-to-Face) - Hamilton Virtual School

LOCATION: Hamilton Virtual School

REPORTS TO: Virtual School Administration

FLSA STATUS: Nonexempt

START DATE: As soon as possible

HOURS: 18 hours/week. Tuesday/Thursday 7:30 - 3:30 and Wednesday 11:30 - 2:30. The position schedule will follow the Hamilton Community Schools school calendar.

SALARY: Class I Support Staff Pay Schedule ($15.64/hour Base)

JOB SUMMARY: The Face-to-Face Paraprofessional supports the daily operation of Hamilton Virtual School’s hybrid campus by providing student supervision and assistance with meals, technology, building procedures, and other day-to-day campus needs. Reporting to Virtual School Administration, the paraprofessional helps create a welcoming, safe, and organized environment for K-12 students while supporting staff with the effective operation of the face-to-face learning environment. This position serves as a visible and supportive adult presence for students and works collaboratively with school staff and Food Service personnel to meet student and campus needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions are the core responsibilities required to perform this role. These duties support the safe, organized, and effective operation of Hamilton Virtual School’s hybrid campus and ensure students receive appropriate supervision and assistance while on campus. The Face-to-Face Paraprofessional is also responsible for other duties as assigned to meet the evolving needs of students and the district.

Student Supervision and Support:

  • Welcome students as they arrive on campus and assist with morning arrival procedures.
  • Supervise students during arrival, dismissal, class transitions, breakfast, lunch, and other designated times and locations.
  • Assist students with navigating the building, locating classrooms, following schedules, and understanding campus procedures.
  • Provide a visible, welcoming, and supportive adult presence throughout the building.
  • Reinforce school-wide expectations and promote a positive, safe, and orderly environment.
  • Assist teachers, administrators, and other staff with student supervision and day-to-day campus needs.

Meal Service Support:

  • Assist with the organization and distribution of student breakfasts.
  • Collect and organize student lunch requests and meal orders.
  • Communicate accurate meal orders and counts to Food Service within established timelines.
  • Distribute meal tickets and assist students with breakfast and lunch procedures.
  • Assist Food Service in maintaining accurate information regarding documented student dietary restrictions and food allergies and communicating appropriate information to Food Service and designated staff.
  • Monitor students in the cafeteria during breakfast and lunch.
  • Assist with cafeteria cleanup and organization following meal periods.

Technology and Student Device Support:

  • Assist students with Chromebook and iPad checkout and return procedures.
  • Help maintain accurate records of school-issued devices.
  • Identify and report missing, damaged, or malfunctioning technology to appropriate staff.
  • Provide basic assistance to students with established school technology procedures.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work collaboratively with Virtual School administrators, teachers, support staff, and Food Service personnel.
  • Communicate student needs, concerns, and relevant information to appropriate staff in a timely manner.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, families, and other district personnel.
  • Follow established procedures and directions provided by Virtual School Administration and other designated staff.

Other functions of the job include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintain student confidentiality and appropriately safeguard student information, including dietary and allergy information.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, organization, and effective communication.
  • Attend meetings and training as required.
  • Follow District policies, procedures, and established campus expectations.
  • Remain flexible and responsive to changing student and campus needs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by Virtual School Administration or district administration.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Knowledge:

  • Basic principles of student supervision, behavior support, and appropriate interactions with K-12 students.
  • School procedures related to student safety, daily operations, and maintaining an orderly learning environment.
  • Basic practices for maintaining accurate records and appropriately handling confidential student information.
  • School and district policies, procedures, and expectations applicable to the position.

Skills:

  • Effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, including attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Student supervision and positive behavior support skills.
  • Basic computer and technology skills.

Abilities:

  • Ability to establish positive and effective relationships with K-12 students, staff, and families.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or high school equivalency diploma required.
  • Ability to read and understand instructional materials.
  • Previous experience working with K-12 students, including students with special needs, preferred.
  • Previous experience in a school, childcare, food service, or other student-centered environment preferred.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of district and Board of Education policies

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, read, operate a computer or other electronic devices, and reach with hands or arms. While performing the duties of this job, the Face-to-Face Paraprofessional:

  • Requires verbal communication for the effective exchange of information.
  • Requires the ability to move throughout the school building and supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, and other assigned areas.
  • May be required to work in both indoor and outdoor environments throughout the school year.
  • Requires vision abilities such as close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
