Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Cardiac Monitor Technician to continuously observe patients’ ECGs and alert clinicians to life-threatening arrhythmias. You will interpret rhythm strips, document findings in the EMR, and communicate with nursing teams to ensure rapid response during alarms.

The role requires a High School Diploma, a Cardiac Monitoring Course, and AHA BLS-HCP certification within 60 days of hire. Shift rotations include day/evening/night, with weekend work as needed.

Responsibilities

• Continuously monitor patients’ cardiac rhythms using ECG monitoring.
• Respond to monitoring alarms and identify cardiac arrhythmias and abnormalities.
• Triage actionable events, evaluate trends, notify nurses, and adjust alarm parameters according to protocols.
• Respond to life-threatening arrhythmias and notify the appropriate response team within one minute.
• Interpret cardiac rhythm strips and document findings in the Electronic Medical Record.
• Provide monitoring-team handoff reports.
• Orient new employees and guide volunteers, students, support, or contract staff.

Job description

• Continuously monitor patients’ cardiac rhythms using ECG monitoring
• Respond to monitoring alarms and identify cardiac arrhythmias and abnormalities
• Triage actionable events, evaluate trends, notify nurses, and adjust alarm parameters according to protocols
• Respond to life-threatening arrhythmias and notify the appropriate response team within one minute
• Recognize and communicate abnormal ST segments, QT intervals, SpO2 waveforms, and BP measurements
• Follow Leads Off protocol and document patients’ whereabouts
• Interpret cardiac rhythm strips and document findings in the Electronic Medical Record
• Report rhythm changes to licensed staff and maintain shift documentation
• Provide monitoring-team handoff reports
• Orient new employees and guide volunteers, students, support, or contract staff
• Provide customer service and patient care with respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy
• Assist with patient transport as needed
• Perform continuous video monitoring and provide verbal redirection to at-risk patients
• Notify inpatient staff in real time about changes in patient condition or behavior, incidents, or other concerns
• Maintain uninterrupted line of sight and patient safety
• Apply life-span growth and development principles to patient care

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent education required
• Cardiac Monitoring course or successfully challenge (if eligible)
• AHA BLS-HCP required within 60 days of hire
• Effective interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills required
• Must successfully complete orientation and competency validation for position
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software preferred
• Ability to work day/evening/night shifts, every other weekend, and rotating holidays
