Job summary

Walton & Company is seeking an experienced Virtual Mechanical Designer to support commercial and industrial HVAC, plumbing, and piping projects throughout Central Pennsylvania and Maryland using CAD, 3D modeling, and laser scanning.

You will collaborate with Engineers, Project Managers, field teams, and other project partners to develop coordinated drawings and practical, constructible solutions while growing your design capabilities under the guidance of our Engineering Department.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years of experience in virtual design, drafting, or mechanical construction.
• Strong understanding of commercial and industrial HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems.
• Ability to read construction drawings and apply drafting techniques and mechanical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical drawings and models using construction documents, sketches, specifications, laser scans, and field information.
• Support HVAC, plumbing, and piping design concepts under Engineering Department guidance.
• Review plans and perform calculations to support accurate designs.
• Coordinate mechanical systems with other trades and identify clashes and constructability concerns.
• Conduct site surveys to gather information needed for design and coordination.
• Work with vendors to obtain equipment information for project designs.
• Provide virtual design support to Engineers, Project Managers, designers, and field personnel.
• Offer technical guidance to Virtual Design Technicians and Assistants.
• Participate in project and design coordination meetings.
• Review your work for accuracy, completeness, and constructability.

What You’ll Do

What We’re Looking For

• High school diploma or GED
• At least five years of relevant experience in virtual design, drafting, or mechanical construction
• Strong understanding of commercial and industrial HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems
• Proficiency in one or more of the following: AutoCAD, AutoCAD Fabrication CADmep, Navisworks Manage, or Revit
• Proficiency in Bluebeam and Microsoft Office
• Ability to read construction drawings and apply drafting techniques and mechanical terminology
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to perform calculations relevant to mechanical design
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while independently checking work for accuracy
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills
• Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and reliable transportation for project site visits

An associate degree or technical training in CAD, drafting, mechanical design, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent relevant education, training, and experience will also be considered.
