Licensed Psychologist, Strategic Behavioral Health Technology Leader

Ovatient is a virtual-first healthcare company founded by The MetroHealth System in Cleveland, Ohio and MUSC Health in Charleston, South Carolina. We put people – not just patients – at the center of how they receive care and improve their health. Ovatient’s team of dedicated virtual providers and care team members work closely with our health system partners to provide patients with connected, coordinated and convenient virtual care.

Job Summary:

We are seeking compassionate and skilled Health Psychologists, Social Workers, and Licensed Professional Counselors who are passionate about whole-person care and making healthcare more accessible by delivering care virtually and with the help of digital health tools and content. As a key member of our virtual Integrated Behavioral Health team, you will collaborate closely with primary care providers, medical staff, and other behavioral health professionals at Ovatient and with our customers to deliver comprehensive care that integrates mental and physical health.

In this role, you will be responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating mental health conditions, offering brief therapy and support that aligns with patients’ overall healthcare plans. We are looking for clinicians who thrive in dynamic environments, bring a strong bias to action, and demonstrate flexibility in meeting the needs of both patients and other providers as you partner through. If you are passionate about delivering person-centered care, enjoy variety in your daily work, and are committed to improving patient outcomes through innovative virtual care solutions, this position is ideal for you.

Additionally, this role offers a unique opportunity to be a catalyst in helping Ovatient build a learning health system. You will lead and participate in quality improvement (QI) pilots, contributing to the continuous enhancement of care delivery and helping shape the future of integrated behavioral health. Your work will be crucial in addressing behavioral factors that influence physical health and in promoting overall well-being.

Key Competencies and Outcomes:

Core Clinical Competencies

Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). The ability to conduct comprehensive psychological assessments and accurately diagnose mental health conditions in a virtual care setting is essential. Additionally, candidates should be skilled in developing and implementing individualized treatment plans that address both behavioral and physical health needs, as well as the social determinants of health.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

Successful candidates will have experience working effectively within a multidisciplinary team, including primary care providers, specialists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in virtual and hybrid care settings. Familiarity with integrated care principles and practices is crucial, as the role requires navigating and coordinating care across behavioral and physical health services.

Communication and Patient Interaction

Strong verbal and written communication skills are required to facilitate clear, concise, and effective interactions with patients, team members, and other stakeholders. A commitment to patient-centered care is essential, with a focus on working collaboratively with patients to set goals and develop care plans that reflect their preferences and needs. Candidates must also be able to provide culturally responsive care, respecting and valuing the diverse backgrounds and experiences of patients. The ability to motivate patients to adhere to treatment plans and make necessary behavioral changes for improved health outcomes is also important.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Candidates should have knowledge of how behavioral health interventions can support the management of chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity. Expertise in promoting healthy behaviors, managing stress, and addressing behavioral risk factors that impact physical health is also required. Additionally, candidates must be proficient in delivering brief, targeted interventions in a primary care setting, such as stress management, sleep hygiene, and tobacco cessation, as well as experience facilitating group therapy skills sessions.

Crisis Management and Adaptability

The role demands strong skills in managing behavioral health crises, including conducting risk assessments for suicide, self-harm, and other emergencies. Flexibility in adapting treatment approaches to meet the cultural and linguistic needs of patients is also essential.

Telehealth and Technology

Proficiency in delivering care via telehealth platforms, including video conferencing and other digital health tools, is required. Candidates should also be capable of assessing and tracking patient outcomes to ensure the effectiveness of behavioral health interventions.

Quality Improvement and Patient Education

Engagement in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing the integration and delivery of behavioral health services within the healthcare setting is expected. Additionally, candidates should have strong skills in educating patients about the connection between mental and physical health, empowering them to actively participate in their care.

Qualifications + Requirements:

Licensed clinical psychologist, social worker, or counselor with experience in behavioral health care delivery, specifically within integrated care settings delivering health psychology-focused interventions. Ohio and South Carolina licensure required (PSYPACT acceptable).

* Experience in integrated care or primary care settings preferred (3+ years)

* Strong ability to develop and implement individualized treatment plans that address behavioral, physical health, and social needs.

* Strong interpersonal and communication skills

* Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-based environment

* Proficiency working within electronic health record systems (Epic experience preferred)

* Interest in contributing to the development of digital tools for patients

* A proactive approach to problem-solving and innovation in virtual care settings.

* A drive to expand access to quality care and make a meaningful impact within the organization and the broader healthcare system.

* While not required, being bilingual with the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse patient population is strongly preferred. The ability to speak and write in Spanish is ideal.
