ACCEL Schools' Virtual Preparatory Academy of Florida is seeking an Academic Mentor for online, statewide K-12 tutoring. The role focuses on high-dosage tutoring in small groups, reinforcing literacy and math, and using provided materials to support classroom learning.

Travel for state testing and events is required a few times per year. Open to Florida residents; a teaching degree is not required, and a high school diploma is accepted for eligibility.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education preferred.
• Teaching degree or certification is not required.
• Experience working with elementary-aged children preferred.
• Experience in tutoring, mentoring, childcare, education, or a similar setting preferred.
• Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
• Patient, dependable, and committed to supporting student success.
• Comfortable using technology and virtual learning platforms.

Responsibilities

• Provide consistent, high-dosage tutoring to elementary students in small groups.
• Deliver targeted support in foundational literacy and mathematics based on student needs and data.
• Use provided instructional materials and strategies to reinforce classroom learning.
• Build positive, supportive relationships that promote student engagement and confidence.
• Monitor and document student attendance, participation, and academic progress.
• Communicate student progress and concerns with teachers and school leadership.
• Participate in training and follow school procedures for student safety, confidentiality, and professionalism.

About the Team

The Virtual Preparatory Academy of Florida is a K–12 tuition-free online public school serving students statewide. At VPA Florida, we provide a safe and nurturing environment where every student has the opportunity to be understood and inspired through a customized learning path that includes live interactive sessions and personalized teacher support.

The Academic Mentor provides high-dosage, targeted tutoring to elementary students based on their individual academic needs. The position provides small-group support to reinforce foundational skills, address learning gaps, and accelerate student growth.

Please note – while this is an online school position and all instruction occurs virtually, travel and face to face attendance will be required several times per year to support in person state testing and student events.
