Job summary

Lighthouse Electric Co., Inc. is seeking a Virtual Design Construction Specialist to perform pre-construction tasks and support BIM workflows. You will develop 3D models, create shop drawings, and support continuous improvement of BIM processes across multiple project phases.

Roles span I–IV levels with opportunities to mentor, lead coordination meetings, and drive quality and efficiency in BIM-based workflows while collaborating with designers, owners, and subcontractors.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in CAD/Drafting or related field preferred.
  • Experience reading floor plans, sections, and elevations; BIM360; Bluebeam; Microsoft Excel and Outlook; Navisworks; Revit.
  • For VDC II and higher: demonstrated ability modeling from 2D to 3D, construction experience, collaboration, problem-solving, urgency, and multitasking in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Virtual Design Construction Specialist is responsible for carrying out assigned pre‑construction tasks effectively and efficiently, while adhering to company standards and actively participating in continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
VDC Specialist I Responsibilities
  • Produce, edit, and coordinate 3‑D object‑oriented models.
  • Produce, annotate, and detail fabrication and field installation shop drawings.
  • Participate in the development of, and provide feedback for, the continuous improvement of workflows and standard operating procedures.
  • Identify model‑related issues to the project team and maintain regular contact with them.
  • Develop a basic knowledge of BIM software, 3‑D design, and construction documents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
VDC Specialist II Responsibilities
  • Perform all VDC Specialist I activities.
  • Act as a mentor to newer team members.
  • Attend and participate in virtual construction, clash detection, and coordination meetings.
  • Seek ways to infuse quality and labor savings into overall Building Information Modeling (BIM) efforts.
  • Assist in the development and continuous improvement of the company’s BIM‑related goals, initiatives, and standards.
  • Assist in developing new ways to utilize model‑based information in various phases of projects.
VDC Specialist III Responsibilities
  • Perform all VDC Specialist I and II activities.
  • Act as a mentor/leader within project teams and within the department as a whole.
  • Provide continuous peer feedback, evaluate current workflows for efficiency, and share best practices to encourage personal and professional peer development.
  • Act as the point of contact in virtual construction, clash detection, and coordination meetings, communicating and delegating pertinent information to the project team.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with designers, owners, and subcontractors.
VDC Specialist IV Responsibilities
  • Perform all VDC Specialist I, II, and III activities.
  • Participate in identifying and strategizing the execution of all project modeling requirements.
  • Ensure Revit project set up is correct and in line with company standards.
  • Create, maintain, and ensure the accuracy of all BIM‑related schedules and bill of materials.
  • Maintain, monitor, and QC the health of project BIM models.
  • Ensure all team members understand and adhere to assigned scope of work, project requirements, specs, deliverables, schedule, and department standards.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in Computer Aided Drafting and Design or similar (preferred).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in reading floor plans, sections, and elevations; BIM360; Bluebeam; Microsoft Excel and Outlook; Navisworks; Revit; and file sharing platforms.
  • For VDC II and higher: Demonstrated competency modeling from a 2D document to produce a 3‑D model, construction experience, effective interoffice collaboration, skilled problem‑solving ability, strong sense of urgency, efficient organizational and communication skills, and the ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast‑paced environment.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with design or marketing tools (Canva, Adobe, or similar) is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment.

  • Travel is primarily local during the business day; some out‑of‑area and overnight travel may be expected.
