Job summary

Tundra Technical Solutions is seeking a Virtual Analysis Engineer for vehicle dynamics simulation. Work on CAE/virtual analysis activities across steering and suspension, to optimize ride/handling for multiple variants.

Role is on-site in Auburn Hills, MI, contracted for 3 months. Requirements include a BS in Mechanical Engineering, experience with suspension kinematics, and proficiency with ADAMS/Car, Hyperworks, NASTRAN, CARSIM, VI-Car realtime, and Matlab.

Qualifications

The Virtual Analysis Engineer in Vehicle Dynamics is responsible, throughout all program development phases, for the leadership of all CAE/virtual analysis activities associated with steering/suspension hardpoint development and components, stiffness/damping/tire specifications and ride/handling performance optimization for all variants of a vehicle architecture, including formulation of design recommendations to meet functional objectives of Company’ vehicles. The overall objective is to minimize vehicle/suspension sensitivity to variation in forces induced by road surfaces, assembly build variation, vehicular architecture and/or wear.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Analysis and optimization of suspension/steering sub-systems' kinematics and compliance.
• Analytical assessments of steady/transient states’ handling behavior; calculation associated with component loads for various handling events (Fish-hook, Trailer Tow, Slow Ramp Steer, Step Steer, Off-Road events for Trail Rating).
• Simulation of ride events and associated characterization of performance (low and high frequency events, impact harshness, vehicle pitch under braking, head-toss, shimmy, wander and brake judder).
• Development/validation/ownership of all associated full vehicle/sub-system simulation models (multi-body dynamics: ADAMS/Car, parametric: CARSIM, VI-Car Realtime, flex-body: NASTRAN).
• Develop models (remotely) and provide on-site support for driving simulator studies.
• Formulate/execute plans for analytical support of physical mule tuning activities.
• Develop new CAE/simulation processes as needed.

Requirements:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited university.
• Experience with processes and simulation techniques associated with suspension/steering/brake system’s kinematics/compliance/vibration studies, vehicle ride/handling assessments, component structural analysis.
• Experience with associated simulation tools: ADAMS/Car, Altair Hyperworks, NASTRAN, CARSIM, VI-Car realtime, Matlab.
• Ability to develop custom routines (Visual Basic, ADAMS command files, ADAMS/Car templates, Matlab) to support process enhancement is preferred.
• Familiarity with Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
• Ability to extract component detail from NX, Teamcenter and CoDeP.
• Self-starter with demonstrated problem solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to summarize, present work to management and cross-functional teams.
• Demonstrated understanding of vehicle dynamics theory and application.
• High level of proficiency in English is a must (speaking, reading, writing).
• Experience with associated simulation tools: ADAMS/Car, Altair Hyperworks, NASTRAN, CARSIM, VI-Car realtime, Matlab.
