Job summary

The Yang Lab in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology at Stanford University School of Medicine is recruiting an experienced virologist to join our lab as a Basic Life Science Research Scientist. You will evaluate small molecules in biochemical, cell-based, and virological assays and collaborate with medicinal chemists, virologists, and structural biologists to develop prototype drugs.

Qualifications

  • PhD in virology, cell or molecular biology, or biochemistry with 2+ years postdoc in molecular virology of gammaherpesviruses or retroviruses
  • Knowledge of EBV biology or HIV virology is essential
  • Ability to design independent experiments and mentor others

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate small molecules in biochemical, cell-based, and virological assays
  • Characterize mechanisms of action of compounds
  • Develop novel assays for proximity-based mechanisms of action
  • Write sections of grant applications and progress reports
  • Mentor/supervise junior team members
