Job description

Summary:

The Partnership for People with Disabilities at Virginia Commonwealth University celebrates 40 years as Virginia's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Research, Training, and Dissemination (www.partnership.vcu.edu).

The Partnership for People with Disabilities (School of Education) at Virginia Commonwealth University, Virginia’s university center for excellence in developmental disabilities, is seeking a dynamic candidate for the role of Virginia Tiered Systems of Supports (VTSS) Coach, funded by the Virginia Department of Education. In concert with states and territories implementing the multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS), MTSS aligns academics, behavior, and social-emotional wellness into a single decision-making framework to establish the supports needed for schools to be effective learning environments for all students.

VTSS staff partner with school divisions throughout the Commonwealth to support the successful implementation of the framework. MTSS is a data-driven decision-making framework for establishing the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional supports needed for a school to be an effective learning environment for all students. This systemic approach allows divisions, schools, and communities to provide multiple levels of supports to students in a more effective and efficient, clearly defined process.

This position is grant-funded. We anticipate long-term funding for this role; however, similar to other grant-funded organizations, funding changes at the federal level could impact this position. The position will be open rank with an anticipated slotting of Community Engagement & Outreach, Sr. Education Specialist CE 1 14234N.

Typical Duties

The position is a full-time remote university and administrative professional role. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Collaborate on workgroups and/or training teams to develop, revise, and enhance the VTSS training scope and sequence for divisions and schools, including in-person and online formats.
  2. Participate in vetting the content of professional development developed by VTSS training teams.
  3. Support assigned VTSS divisions and schools in implementing evidence-based literacy, mathematics, Response to Intervention (RtI), and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). Coaches may be assigned across the Commonwealth (Regions 1-8).
  4. Build the capacity of division leadership teams to implement and sustain division-wide MTSS, including developing internal coaching capacity at the school level.
  5. Work with VTSS and VDOE staff to develop and plan statewide and regional training sessions, utilizing organizational processes and facilitative skills to guide divisions through the stages of implementation as described by the National Implementation Research Network (NIRN).
  6. Provide coaching and technical assistance (face-to-face, virtual, hybrid) to support understanding and application of training content.
  7. Consult with divisions and schools on evidence-based practices that support student achievement, behavior, systems change, data-based decision-making, and system support establishment.
  8. Maintain regular contact with divisions, including at least once a month in meetings and twice a month via phone/email, and keep detailed records of all training and assistance provided.
  9. Reinforce VTSS vocabulary, background knowledge, and the importance of collaborative partnerships.
  10. Build partnerships with division administration and staff.
  11. Train staff on the MTSS process and program evaluation protocols.
  12. Develop documents for dissemination of MTSS and ongoing project funding through grants.
  13. Support divisions in implementing Virginia's MTSS Core Components, using fidelity measures and evaluation tools to guide efforts.
  14. Participate in committees and work groups related to VTSS, Partnership, and SOE, and serve state partners as requested.
