Summary:

The Viral Immunology Lead Technician performs advanced technical duties supporting immunology experiments, including flow cytometry and ELISA, for evaluating host immune response to viral pathogens. Provides senior-level technical support in immunological research on viral pathogens to assist in vaccine and therapeutic countermeasure development.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct immunoassays for T-cell and B-cell response measurement.
  • Process and analyze blood, tissue, and serum samples.
  • Support vaccine and challenge studies in animals.
  • Maintain inventory and calibrate lab instruments.
  • Ensure compliance with BSL-3/4 and PRP protocols.
  • Perform laboratory procedures, testing, research activities, and other tasks in fields such as aerobiology, biochemistry, immunology, microbiology, virology, bacteriology, molecular or cell biology, veterinary medicine, toxicology, or other scientific discipline.
  • Plan and accomplish goals, participate in or lead development of research work plans, proposals, budgets, and agreements.
  • May function as a study Lead Investigator.
  • Independently read, understand, and execute techniques, procedures, and plans to meet requirements of quality standards, national standards of research technical accuracy, other relevant written guidelines, and timelines prescribed by the research plan and based on professional judgment.
  • Record all laboratory procedures and research project data, data analyses, and analytical conclusions of analyses in accordance with applicable regulations and procedures.
  • Perform a variety of scientific and administrative tasks. Provide training and mentorship to junior staff.
  • May participate in support of laboratory biosafety requirements and laboratory space management, in coordination with director, Investigators, or other relevant staff.

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Flow cytometry, ELISpot, and cytokine profiling expertise.
  • Knowledge of immune cell markers and gating strategies.
  • GLP and biosafety proficiency.
  • Clear documentation and SOP adherence.
  • Specialized skills may be required, including but not limited to, aerobiology, clinical pathology, electron or confocal microscopy, histopathology, quality assurance, and good laboratory practice.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in immunology, biology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years in immunology or virology lab settings.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance eligibility, with no access to classified information, is required.
  • Enroll in the Personnel Reliability Program (PRP), if required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ACTIVE SECRET is preferred.
  • Associate degree with relevant experience may be considered.

Pay and Benefits
