Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this full-time position will be to serve as a Health Policy Analyst I in the Office of the Secretary, Center for Firearm Violence Prevention and Intervention (Firearm Center). This position will staff the new Firearm Center and will plan and coordinate policy and programmatic initiatives related to reducing and addressing firearm violence in all its forms. The Health Policy Analyst I will also provide professional guidance in evaluating, analyzing, researching, reviewing, and formulating health policy and programs.This position will use expertise and skills to support the Center Executive Director and Firearm Center staff and affiliates at MDH through: Policy and cost analysis to inform decision-making related to firearm violence; Development, coordination, and implementation of policies and programs; Document and report preparation; Research, data analysis, and documentation of summary/findings to support policy and program development; Research and product development that identifies risk and protective factors (including social determinants of health and health equity) related to firearm violence that align with the Firearm Center’s policies, programs, and initiatives; Assistance with the development of surveys, data collection tools, and evaluation methods to determine needs, efforts, and outcomes related to a variety of firearm violence prevention and response activities; and Participation in cross-sector, interdepartmental collaboration with internal and external partners in public and private settings related to policy, programs, training/presentations/outreach, budgeting, data, and/or partnerships.In preparation for and during the legislative session, the Health Policy Analyst I will play a critical role researching and developing position papers, fiscal notes, testimony, reports, and recommendations in collaboration with Firearm Center leadership. The Health Policy Analyst I will also analyze and develop recommendations regarding activities governed by health and public policy and firearm-related regulations. The Health Policy Analyst I will lead projects and activities that ensure implementation, compliance, and evaluation of statutes, regulations, policies, and programs pertinent to MDH to meet the mission to improve the health and safety of all Marylanders by addressing prevention, intervention, and the underlying risk and protective factors that impact the likelihood of exposure to firearm violence. In addition, the Health Policy Analyst I will execute additional duties assigned by the Firearm Center and/or MDH leadership that relate to firearm violence directly or indirectly to address operational/administrative gaps or that meet emergent public health needs.This position requires the following attributes: Strong written and verbal communication skills Strong time management and organizational skills Attention to detail and problem-solving skills Strong passion for gun violence prevention PLEASE NOTE: This position is hybrid telework eligible.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:��� A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.Experience: One year of experience evaluating, analyzing, researching and developing health care services, policies and programs.Note:�Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree in Health Sciences, Health Care Administration, Public�Health, Public Policy or closely related field from an�accredited college or university for the required experience.

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
