Atlanta's Black culture offers unique opportunities to tell powerful stories. This role focuses on creating digital video content that explores how Black culture shapes life in Atlanta and influences broader regions and the world. The producer will work with the video team to produce, shoot, and edit content across social platforms, collaborating with the Black Culture team to implement daily programming on third-party platforms and ajc.com.

This highly skilled role requires a creative and technical individual who understands audience behavior and has a proven track record of optimizing content for social and digital platforms. The candidate should possess a sophisticated understanding of Black culture, tradition, arts, history, politics, celebrity culture, race, power, money, and identity, both locally and nationally.

The role emphasizes vertical content creation for platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts. The candidate should be capable of shooting on both smartphones and cine cameras, be a skilled writer and editor, and adept at producing both premium videos and raw, authentic moments to enhance social presence.

The producer must find innovative ways to meet audience engagement goals, develop the social voice, and respond swiftly to trending opportunities in a fast-paced environment. Attention to detail, quality obsession, and multi-project management are essential. The position is based in Atlanta, GA, with potential travel and weekend work, requiring flexibility to handle the demands of a 24/7 newsroom.

Responsibilities

• Produce, shoot, and edit vertical videos optimized for social platforms (e.g., Instagram, TikTok, YT Shorts); may involve on-camera work or narration
• Write creative and accurate scripts and captions
• Design engaging thumbnails and graphics; innovate with new video formats
• Stay updated on trends and in-app tools to enhance storytelling
• Identify and pitch social content opportunities aligned with news priorities
• Help shape the voice of AJC Black Culture on social media and platforms
• Shoot in the field with digital cine cameras, maintaining visual identity
• Book, produce, and develop on-camera talent
• Edit vertical videos and adapt horizontal content for social
• Collaborate with editors, designers, and stakeholders in post-production
• Create daily and weekly social content that supports overall strategy
• Manage post-production workflows, organize footage and metadata
• Maintain asset databases for timely delivery
• Use audience insights to evolve video style and identity
• Contribute to quick-turn edits and feature stories for sponsored content
• Communicate effectively and adapt to changing needs

Qualifications

• Expertise in Adobe Premiere; familiarity with Adobe suite is a plus
• Portfolio demonstrating editorial judgment, technical skills, and creativity
• Experience creating video for digital/social platforms or news organizations
• Strong shooting skills with a digital-first aesthetic; knowledge of Sony FX series is a plus
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Strong writing abilities
• Passion for news, entertainment, and digital content
• Flexibility in dynamic environments
• Experience working within editorial and legal standards
• Educational requirements vary by degree: Bachelor's (4+ years), Master's (2+ years), Ph.D. (1+ year), or no degree (8+ years) in digital video production

Salary range: USD 65,500 - 98,300 per year. Compensation may vary based on location, skills, and experience, with potential for additional incentives.
