The Video Editor/Videographer is responsible for the post-production workflow, transforming captured footage into compelling documentary-style videos and delivering content across multiple platforms, from horizontal long-form to vertical social media content. The position manages projects from the first cut through final delivery. The work supports the University’s broader communications goals. The role offers the opportunity to shape compelling visual stories that capture the Wesleyan experience and advance the University’s broader communications goals.

Reporting to the Manager of Multimedia, the Video Editor/Videographer is a member of a collaborative, dynamic, and strategic multimedia team. While this position primarily focuses on editing, it also manages some projects from ideation through final distribution and records video for University projects as needed. The position works closely with the Social Media Manager and others within the Office of Communications, to support the University’s communications goals.

Responsibilities

• Edit video content from footage intake through final delivery using Adobe Creative Suite.
• Create lower thirds, title cards, and end cards.
• Perform color grading and correction on LOG footage using LUTs, and adjustments in Lumetri.
• Mix audio for clarity and emotional impact.
• Deliver content optimized for multiple platforms such as web and social media channels.
• Collaborate with the Social Media Specialist to format and adapt content for Instagram, YouTube, and other channels.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and searchable content library.
• Enforce consistent naming conventions and folder architecture for all projects.
• Manage backup and archive systems.
• Plan, shoot, and edit video projects from conception through final delivery using Canon mirrorless cameras, lighting, and audio equipment.
• Assist with larger University video productions by operating video cameras and related production equipment.
• Maintain, transport, set up, operate, and break down video production equipment for on- and off- campus video shoots.
• Make editorial decisions regarding shot selection, composition, pacing, sequencing, sound, and visual continuity to support each project’s objectives.
• Manage assigned video projects from footage intake through final delivery, including coordinating feedback, revisions, and deadlines.
• Collaborate with team members and campus partners to clarify production needs, incorporate feedback, and resolve technical or content-related issues.
• Demonstrated visual judgment, including the ability to evaluate composition, continuity, pacing, and overall visual quality.

This is an on-campus position. Earliest start date for the position will be early December.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of experience in video production, film production, multimedia production, communications or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Demonstrated experience with video editing and post-production, including encoding, closed captioning, and delivering content through platforms such as YouTube. This includes experience using Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop.
• Experience with video production equipment including mirrorless/DSLR cameras, lighting, and audio.
• Experience creating content for distribution through social media.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple video projects, meet deadlines, and use project-management tools effectively.
• Demonstrated storytelling ability, including an understanding of pacing, rhythm, and emotional arc.
• Experience managing and archiving video footage and consistently applying established file-naming conventions.
• Demonstrated creativity, initiative, and problem-solving ability.
• Demonstrated experience managing video projects from initial concept through final delivery.
• Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with team members and campus partners.
• Demonstrated commitment to working within a diverse environment and interact openly with individuals of different backgrounds.
• Availability to work some weekend and evening hours.
• Ability to transport, set up, operate, and break down photography and video production equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation, for on- and off-campus assignments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Five years of professional experience in video production, including experience as a videographer or in a related role.
• Experience working in an agency or another fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environment.
• Experience using motion graphics or animation tools, such as Adobe After Effects.
• Experience with photography.

Portfolio

Applicants must submit a portfolio that includes at least two examples of video work demonstrating editing and post-production experience. At least one sample should demonstrate videography/camera work. Please identify your role in the creation of each work sample.
