Job description

The Victim Advocate Assistant will assist the Legal and Social Advocacy Department with clerical work and departmental advocacy needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide information regarding victimization.
• Inform victims of their legal rights and available protections.
• Offer emotional support to victims.
• Assist victims with safety planning.
• Assist victims in completing compensation applications.
• Help victims secure shelter and transportation.
• Deliver presentations.
• Respond to telephone inquiries and check voicemails.
• Schedule appointments.
• Conduct client intakes.
• Provide transportation to trafficking victims with prior supervisor authorization.
• Assist with Spanish-English interpretation, if applicable.
• Update client lists and records of presentations and trainings.
• Update the DATA
• Oversee filing and organization of records.
• Confirm scheduled appointments.
• Maintain regular contact with human trafficking clients to provide updates.
• Make client referrals as needed.
• Purchase basic necessities for human trafficking clients using reimbursable funds.
• Update HT stats & map
• Perform clerical tasks such as faxing, copying, scanning, and courier services.
• Attend events and meetings on behalf of Legal and Social Advocacy.

Job Requirements

Education: Associates Degree

Certification required: Current valid CPR certificate

Experience: Crisis Intervention Training, Domestic Violence Training, Human Trafficking Training, Advocacy Trainings, Confidentiality Trainings, Case Management Trainings. Experience in the field of serving victims of crime. Contacts in the community.

Bilingual: Fluent in English and Spanish

Verbal and Written Skills to perform the job: Bilingual (English/Spanish). Familiarity with basic word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Accurate keyboarding skills.
