Job summary

HP is seeking a Vice President, Platform Engineering to lead the platform tech stacks behind HP’s products, reporting to the CTO, Software. The role drives the developer experience, data/AI, security, infrastructure, and reliability to enable a scalable, software-led transformation across a global organization.

With 15+ years in engineering and 8+ years in senior leadership, you will influence millions of users and collaborate with C-level stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field; a Ph.D. is preferred.
  • 15+ years of engineering experience, with 8+ years in senior people management and global teams.

The Vice President, Platform Engineering role oversees the platform technology stacks that support HP products. Thescopeincludes thedeveloper experience (DevEx), data and AI, security, infrastructure, and reliability. This executive position is critical to advancing HP’s software-led business transformation and growth by driving platformengineering excellence and enabling new efficienciesandoperatingmodels. This role reports to the Chief Technology Officer, Software at HP. This leader will serve as a trusted partner to C-level executives and stakeholders across product and technology, with the opportunity to deliver sustained, company-wide impact at HP—a global technology leader and long-standing Fortune 100 company with more than 28,000 patents, over$55 billionin annual revenue, and 58,000 employees worldwide.

Responsibilities
  • Lead by example, fostering a culture of accountability, technology and architecture excellence, and a customer-first mindset across the organization.
  • Attract, build, lead, and develop a high-performing team oftechnology leaderswithdiverseexpertise, perspectives, and backgrounds.
  • Leadthe developer experiencefunction,responsible for maximizing AI-enabled developer productivity, efficiency, and satisfaction by reducing friction across the software development lifecycle for thousands of developers building HP products’ software and platform technology stacks.
  • Lead the security function,responsible for making secure software delivery the default path, with security embedded into application software, platforms, pipelines, and engineering workflows.
  • Lead the data and AI function, responsible for developing and executing a new vision for delivering trusted data, AI, and ML capabilities that software, platform, and product teams can use safely and repeatedly.
  • Lead the infrastructurefunction,responsible for delivering scalable, cost-efficient, secure-by-default infrastructure primitives for all software and platform engineering teams.
  • Lead the reliability function, responsible for defining and leading the reliability strategy and execution for the shared platform services that powerHP’sproducts and digital experiences.
  • Partner closely with stakeholders to implement and exemplify a true platform engineering producer-consumer model supported by well-defined, aligned service-levelobjectives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or master’sdegree in computer science, engineering, or a related field; a Ph.D. is preferred.
  • Current or priorengineeringexperienceoperatingat the VP level within an establishedtechnologycompany.
  • 15+ years of relevant experience in engineering functions, including 8+ years in senior people management roles, and preferably 4+ years oftechnology /software engineering leadership experience managing global teams, serving multiple internal customer organizations, and delivering capabilities used by millions of users or supporting $100M+ businesses.
  • Demonstrable accomplishments inorganizational development efficiencies and buildinga high-performing team of talentedsoftwareengineers andleaderswith diverse experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering significant, measurable business value through engineering excellence, efficiency, and execution-speed improvements.
  • Deep technicalexpertiseand experience in distributed systems, modern cloud-native software architecture, and modern AI-native software development lifecycle practices.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and the demonstrable ability to develop and deliver persuasive, senior-executive-level content.
  • Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build deep, trusted cross-organizational relationships.
Impact & Scope

This job description describes the general nature and level of work performed in this role. The pay range for this role is $280,000 - $350,000 annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity (applies to United States of America candidates only). Pay varies by work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This position can be located in Palo Alto, CA; Vancouver, WA; or Spring, TX.
