Position Title: Vice Principal

Department: Administration

Reports To: Principal

Location: High School

SUMMARY: Responsible for day-to-day administration of the school and providing a safe and orderly environment for students and staff. Takes the lead in supervising non-instructional and extra-curricular activities.

VISION: The Nampa School District is seeking an extraordinary school leader for our Vice Principal position who is committed to every child’s success.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Assist in managing the school in accordance with federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy
  • Assist the Building Principal in his or her efforts to initiate, design, and implement programs to meet the specific needs of the school
  • Exercise leadership in school-level planning for improvement of instruction
  • Establish and maintain an effective learning climate in the school
  • Assist in coordinating transportation and other support services
  • Aide the principal in communicating information to parents and the community
  • Act as a liaison between the school and the community (including all ethnic groups), interpreting activities and policies of the school, and encouraging community participation in school life
  • Report incidents of discipline resulting in a suspension from school, as well as all incidents of violence, vandalism, substance abuse, and weapons possession as directed by the Principal
  • Work cooperatively with law enforcement authorities in maintaining a safe and drug-free school environment
  • Work with the Principal to plan, schedule, and supervise fire and other emergency drills and an emergency preparedness program as required by federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy
  • Serve as building administrator in the absence of the Principal
  • Greet and interact with parents and visitors in the absence of the Principal
  • Assist in the supervision of the cafeteria during lunch hours and assist with campus supervision
  • Assist in monitoring students in the community while they are leaving to learn on such opportunities like internships, job shadows, and interviews
  • Assist in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating of the school’s personnel as directed
  • Assist in supervising professional, paraprofessional, administrative, and non-professional personnel and teacher trainees as assigned by the Principal
  • Supervise extracurricular programs and assembly programs
  • Assign faculty members to assist at school functions
  • Assist in the coordination and supervision of special programs funded by the state or federal government
  • Make recommendations to the Principal for changes in policies, personnel practices, and other matters that may result in a more effective school administration

  • Assist the process in providing teachers with the appropriate integration of technology in the classroom
  • Assist the Principal in supervising the school’s educational program and teaching process and monitor delivery of the instructional program
  • Assist in overseeing the scheduling of students into classes, establishing the schedule of class offerings, and maintaining a balance of student loads in each class
  • Plan, organize, supervise, and evaluate all curricular and extracurricular activities, as directed
  • Greet students in a friendly and dependable manner during their morning arrival whenever possible
  • Supervise the dismissal of students at the end of the school day
  • Interact appropriately with students during the school day
  • Maintain high standards of student conduct and enforce the district’s discipline policies in accordance with the students' rights to due process, keep records of any disciplinary action, and perform follow-up communication with students’ parents, teachers, and other administrators as needed
  • Assist in developing and implementing student handbooks and procedures for proper student conduct
  • As directed, participate in the planning and delivery of intervention and referral services for pupils who are having difficulty in their classes and who have not been classified in need of special education
  • Provide guidance to individual students and resolve individual behavioral problems
  • Attend special events held to recognize student achievement and other school-sponsored activities and functions
  • Assist with regularly scheduled parent/teacher conferences
  • Make arrangements for special conferences as necessary
  • Maintain an active relationship with students and parents based on respect and understanding
  • Supervise the reporting and monitoring of student attendance, and work with the Principal for investigative follow-up actions
  • Assume responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and health of the students
  • Actively pursue all cases of truancy, excessive absences, and tardies
  • Helps in truancy issues, including home visits, in conjunction with other school personnel and/or SRO/Probation
  • Assist in the preparation of required reports on violence, vandalism, substance abuse, and possession of firearms
  • Assist with the proper collection, safekeeping, and accounting of school activity funds
  • Assist with the proper collection, safekeeping, and accounting of school technology equipment
  • Assist with the development of the annual budget
  • Supervise the preparation of school reports, records, and other paperwork for the district office, as directed
  • Utilize technology for data collection and interpretation in the areas of academics, attendance, and discipline
  • Perform such record-keeping and reporting functions as the Principal may direct
  • Participate in administrative, Board, and other meetings as required or appropriate
  • Keep appropriate personnel informed of the school’s activities, needs, and any issues that may arise
  • Provide for adequate inventories of property under school jurisdiction and for the security of that property
  • Assist in providing for the safety and administration of the school building and grounds
  • Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment
  • Assist in the planning and supervision of activities to promote pupil and employee health and safety
  • Assume responsibility for his or her continuing professional growth and development by such efforts as attendance at professional meetings, membership in professional organizations, enrollment in advanced courses, and by reading professional journals and other publications
  • Perform other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Participates in the supervision and evaluation process of staff.

Education And Or Experience
  • Valid Idaho administrative license, or ability to attain one prior to employment start date.
  • Master’s Degree in Educational or Administration required.
  • Three to five years of successful classroom experience required.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Able to conduct basic math functions and manipulate formulas in spreadsheets as needed.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form. Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
