ZIP is hiring a Vice President of Software Engineering to lead our software engineering organization through its next phase of maturity, innovation, and scale. This executive-level role is responsible for the engineering strategy and execution across Core Platform Backend and Frontend teams. You will be a critical partner in transforming ZIP into a technology organization known for its resiliency, extensibility, and enterprise-grade capabilities.As a key member of the Product, Design, and Engineering Leadership Team, you will play a central role in shaping ZIP’s product development strategy, ensuring engineering feasibility, technical integrity, and roadmap alignment. This leadership team is responsible for:

  • Defining and prioritizing cross-functional initiatives
  • Developing achievable, strategically aligned product and platform roadmaps
  • Balancing customer needs, compliance requirements, and business objectives
  • Driving execution against shared goals
  • Ensuring that engineering, design, and product teams are collaborating effectively to deliver high-quality outcomes

You will also work cross-functionally with Security, Compliance, Legal, and other business stakeholders to support the company’s evolving needs. You'll foster a high-performance, customer-first engineering culture while driving operational excellence and continuous improvement.

  • Lead the engineering strategy and execution for ZIP’s next-generation consumer products, built on a secure, resilient, and scalable cloud-native platform
  • Drive the evolution of ZIP’s core platforms to support new business models, enhanced user experiences, and long-term extensibility

What you’ll bring to the team

  • A strong sense of ownership—you proactively address issues, inefficiencies, or misalignment, and work to raise the bar rather than work around problems.
  • Experience upleveling teams by assessing current capabilities, mentoring engineers, and instilling a culture of accountability, excellence, and continuous growth.

Education & Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; a graduate degree is a plus
  • In lieu of a graduate degree, the completion of a recognized engineering leadership or architecture program preferred

Experience

  • 15+ years of engineering experience with progressive growth through engineering leadership ranks, including at least 5 years in senior leadership roles, and currently serving as a Vice President of Engineering or equivalent executive-level role
  • Required experience in financial services, ideally within a fintech environment
  • Extensive experience delivering and scaling consumer, merchant and partner products in regulated or high trust domains
  • Proven success leading platform and application engineering teams through transformation and growth
  • Demonstrated ability to modernize systems and manage cloud-native platforms at scale (Azure preferred)
  • Strong background in regulated industries, ensuring engineering outcomes meet compliance, audit, and risk requirements

  • Familiarity with engineering KPIs such as deployment frequency, uptime, SLA/SLO attainment, and defect rates
  • Knowledge of secure development standards and enterprise risk management best practices
  • Experience driving forward strategic modernization efforts including platform simplification and tech debt reduction

  • Demonstrated ability to align engineering initiatives with overarching business goals, ensuring that technical strategies support company growth and market competitiveness
  • Experience in setting and executing long-term engineering roadmaps, balancing innovation with sustainability

  • Familiarity with secure, ethical, and compliant use of AI technologies in regulated environments

Zip is committed to a straightforward and transparent pay structure. The actual base salary will be determined by various individualized factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, location, internal equity, as well as other objective business considerations.The annual base Pay Range for this position is $240,000 - $300,000 USD. This range reflects our US national compensation (USN). Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a bonus and/or equity awards, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. If hired, employees will be in an 'at-will position'.
