Position Overview

The Vice President, Tax will play a key role in driving tax efficiency, ensuring compliance, mitigating risk and building scalable processes and infrastructure to support continued company expansion. This role requires a hands‑on leader with deep technical expertise, strong business acumen, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑growth environment. This role reports to the Chief Financial Officer, leads the enterprise tax function and is based at the company’s headquarters in Cincinnati, OH.

Responsibilities
  • Build the tax framework required to support international expansion
  • Establish foundational policies for cross‑border transactions, intercompany activity and transfer pricing
  • Manage non‑U.S. and cross‑border tax obligations as international operations develop, including value‑added tax (VAT/IVA), permanent establishment risk and transfer pricing documentation
  • Identify and proactively manage tax risks associated with entering new markets and providing new services
  • Lead all corporate tax functions including federal, state, local and international tax compliance, reporting, planning, and strategy
  • Oversee indirect and transaction‑based tax compliance, including sales and use tax, gross receipts taxes (e.g., the Ohio Commercial Activity Tax), business licenses and registrations, property tax and unclaimed property/escheatment
  • Develop and execute tax strategies that optimize the company’s effective tax rate and overall tax position, including owner‑level and pass‑through entity (PTE) tax outcomes, while ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
  • Manage tax matters arising from the company’s pass‑through (partnership) structure, including partnership and owner Schedule K‑1 reporting, state pass‑through entity (PTE) tax elections and composite and nonresident owner withholding filings
  • Identify and capture available tax credits and incentives, including research and development (R&D) credits and state and local economic development incentives tied to facility and headcount growth
  • Monitor and interpret changes in tax legislation and assess potential impacts to the organization, including multi‑state nexus and economic nexus thresholds as the company adds locations and services
  • Lead and manage all tax audits, inquiries and relationships with external tax advisors and regulatory authorities
  • Partner with external auditors and the accounting team to support the financial statement audit and the monthly and quarterly close, including tax‑related disclosures, book‑to‑tax differences and reserves
  • Partner with executive leadership on strategic initiatives including acquisitions, entity structuring, expansion efforts and operational planning
  • Build and maintain strong internal controls, tax policies and governance procedures across the enterprise
  • Drive continuous improvement, automation, standardization and scalability within tax processes, systems and reporting capabilities
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with Accounting, Finance, Legal, HR, Treasury and Operations to support enterprise‑wide initiatives
  • Provide strategic guidance and leadership on complex tax matters including nexus, indirect tax, transfer pricing and multi‑entity structures, both international and domestic
  • Build, mentor and develop a high‑performing tax organization focused on accountability, development and operational excellence
  • Support executive leadership with tax forecasting, cash planning and risk management initiatives
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field required
  • CPA required; master’s in taxation or JD preferred
  • Big 4 or large public accounting firm foundation strongly preferred
  • 15+ years of progressive tax leadership experience with significant corporate tax management responsibility
  • Deep expertise in federal, state and multi‑state and international corporate taxation
  • Strong knowledge of ASC 740, partnership and pass‑through entity taxation, GAAP tax accounting and corporate tax compliance requirements
  • Demonstrated experience with partnership and pass‑through (LLC/partnership) taxation, including Schedule K‑1 reporting, state PTE elections and owner‑level tax considerations
  • Hands‑on experience with indirect and transaction‑based taxes (sales and use, gross receipts) in a high‑volume, multi‑state environment
  • Proven ability to lead complex tax functions within large, high‑growth organizations
  • Experience building, scaling or transforming a tax function from a lean base — not solely operating a mature, fully‑staffed department
  • Experience managing tax planning strategies, audits and regulatory relationships
  • Strong analytical, organizational and problem‑solving skills
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence executive stakeholders
  • Experience driving process improvement, automation and scalable operational infrastructure
  • Advanced ERP, tax software and financial systems experience required
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment with evolving business priorities
  • Experience in transportation, logistics, brokerage or high‑volume transactional industries preferred
