A growing, publicly traded organization is seeking a Vice President / Head of Tax to build and lead its corporate tax function. Reporting directly to executive leadership, this individual will serve as the company's senior tax advisor, driving tax strategy, structuring, and value creation while developing a scalable tax organization to support future growth.
This is a highly strategic leadership role focused on partnering with Finance, Legal, Corporate Development, Treasury, and Operations to maximize tax efficiency across capital investments, acquisitions, financing activities, and evolving business initiatives. The successful candidate will establish the long-term tax vision, build and mentor the tax team, and oversee outside advisors while ensuring the company remains well positioned for future growth.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Tax Leadership
- Develop and execute the company's overall tax strategy, aligning tax initiatives with business objectives and capital allocation decisions.
- Advise executive leadership on tax implications of acquisitions, financings, entity structures, commercial arrangements, and expansion initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to optimize cash taxes, effective tax rate, and overall tax value creation.
- Lead tax planning around large capital investments, infrastructure projects, fixed assets, depreciation strategies, and available tax incentives and credits.
- Provide strategic guidance on complex transactions, restructurings, and M&A activity.
Build & Lead the Tax Function
- Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing tax organization as the company continues to grow.
- Establish scalable tax processes, controls, governance, and best practices.
- Manage relationships with external tax advisors and specialty consultants.
- Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Accounting, Legal, Treasury, Corporate Development, and Operations.
Tax Oversight & Governance
- Provide executive oversight of federal, state, local, and international tax compliance, tax provision, SALT, indirect tax, and reporting activities.
- Ensure appropriate internal controls, governance, and compliance processes are in place while delegating day-to-day execution to the tax team and external advisors.
- Partner with Accounting on tax provision, financial reporting, and ASC 740 matters.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA, JD, or Master's in Tax preferred.
- 12+ years of progressive corporate tax experience with a combination of public accounting and industry leadership.
- Demonstrated experience developing tax strategy, corporate structuring, and advising executive leadership on complex business decisions.
- Experience leading tax planning related to capital-intensive businesses, tax incentives, depreciation, fixed assets, and large-scale investments.
- Strong background supporting acquisitions, restructurings, and strategic transactions.
- Proven leadership experience building teams and developing talent.
- Executive presence with the ability to translate complex tax matters into practical business recommendations.
