Position Summary

The position, under the supervision of the Chief Operating Officer, is responsible for partnering with chairs to develop strategies for and run clinical operations across multiple departments: Anesthesiology, Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Otolaryngology, Surgery, and Urology. It also supervises the Executive Director of Procedural Operations who manages operating room capital budgets, recommends block allocation changes, and staffs the OR Executive Committee for the hospital. The incumbent leads multidisciplinary strategic projects, ensures daily operations meet quality improvement, fiscal accountability, productivity, and patient satisfaction goals/objectives established by the leadership team.

Essential Responsibilities / Duties
  • Leadership: Determine the overall direction, goals, tactics, and objectives of surgical services under the guidance of the COO, Surgeon-in-Chief, surgical chiefs, and the OR Executive Committee. Work with the team to establish long‑range goals and implement strategic business plans aligned with the institution’s vision and strategic plans.
  • Operations: In partnership with physician, nursing, and operational leadership, support the provision of harmonious, collaborative, safe, and high‑quality care and the timely and efficient use of assets. Enhance services to create a productive, transparent, and safe workplace for employees and patients.
  • Support the management of the OR block review and allocation process.
  • Capital Management: Make recommendations for physical space related to surgery, plan and allocate space for current and future surgical assets, and partner with finance on all capital planning relative to the ORs.
  • Financial Management: Establish and achieve financial goals and measures, monitor financial performance, and facilitate cost‑containment practices through monitoring of volume trends, proactive capacity management, supplies, service contracts, and professional services agreements. Prepare annual hospital budgets with the COO and departments.
  • Human Resources Management: Coordinate with HR for interviewing, hiring, personnel transactions, and corrective action policy implementation. Provide direct supervision and foster employee engagement, professional development, and communication initiatives.
  • Drive employee engagement and consider opportunities to grow abilities and skills through professional development, enhanced communication vehicles, and employee‑focused initiatives.
Compensation Range

$270K – $310K (based on minimum job qualifications). Base pay is determined by education, experience, skills, certifications/license, business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market‑competitiveness. Job Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, Healthcare management) preferred.
