About The Role & Team

IDC is seeking a Research Vice President (RVP) covering Storage, Converged, Hyperconverged and Composable infrastructure. The RVP reports to the GVP for the Storage and Data Management Infrastructure Systems Platforms and Technologies subdomain and will be a key face of IDC’s market intelligence and advisory services in the Enterprise Infrastructure domain.

The RVP will have a broad and in-depth knowledge of the enterprise IT and cloud infrastructure industry, including primary and secondary systems in enterprise datacenters, edge locations, colocation facilities and hosting environments, common file/block/object‑based data organization and access mechanisms over Fibre Channel, Ethernet, and Infiniband networks, software‑defined storage, hyperconverged software, data management storage platforms, different types of scale‑up, parallel, and distributed file systems, data replication, security, and data protection software, flash and hard drive media, NVMe, NVMe over Fabrics, RDMA/ROCE, CXL, PCIe, commercial storage operating systems and hypervisors, and vendor landscapes for storage, converged, hyperconverged, and composable infrastructure vendors.

Use cases include structured and unstructured data management for databases, web and business applications, collaborative applications, performance‑intensive modeling and simulation, artificial intelligence, analytics, and technical and engineering computing environments.

What You’ll Do
  • Work with IDC colleagues to ensure comprehensive quantitative and qualitative coverage of storage and converged infrastructure.
  • Develop high‑quality quantitative and qualitative research on market trends and industry outlook, including taxonomies, market share and forecast reports, vendor reports, technology assessments, end‑user reports, and market perspectives.
  • Propagate IDC’s point of view to the broader industry through presentations, industry conferences, and vendor events.
  • Develop and deliver custom projects via written reports, white papers, interactive engagements, speaking engagements, and custom advisory services.
  • Groom and mentor junior analysts; assume people‑management responsibilities in the future.
What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree a plus.
  • 10+ years of industry experience at an IT vendor, within an enterprise IT organization, or as an industry analyst.
  • Strong analytical, verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with enterprise AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini; advanced AI research skills a bonus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially advanced Excel (Pivot tables, charts, graphs).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for internal and external collaboration.
  • Multitasking ability with strong prioritization of competing deadlines.
  • Travel willingness (0‑50%) to industry and vendor events and client offices.
  • Flexibility to work in person at a worldwide IDC office or remotely, with proximity to a major airport.
  • People‑management skills a plus.

Compensation Transparency
