The position will expand Huitt-Zollars’ rail presence in Texas and support strategic opportunities across national markets. PE-registered, 15+ years in rail required; reports to Transportation Practice Area Lead.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or related field is required.
• Registered Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Education and professional registration preferred; relevant experience will be considered.
• Minimum of 15 years in rail engineering services.

Responsibilities

• Lead business development and strategic growth across freight, industrial, commuter, and light rail markets.
• Develop and maintain relationships with freight railroads, transit agencies, and rail industry partners.
• Identify and pursue new clients, opportunities, partnerships, and teaming arrangements.
• Lead pursuits including capture planning, proposals, and interviews.
• Represent the firm at industry events and client activities.
• Serve as Project Manager or Principal-in-Charge for major rail projects.
• Oversee large, multidisciplinary rail projects across track, structures, drainage, signals, and stations.
• Mentor rail professionals and build the firm's rail capabilities.
• Provide technical and strategic guidance to project teams and promote best practices.

Role Description:

Huitt-Zollars is seeking an experienced Vice President – Rail to join our Dallas or Fort Worth team and help grow our rail business. This is a seller-doer leadership role focused on developing new business, building and strengthening client relationships, and leading the successful delivery of large, complex rail projects and programs.

The position will play a key role in expanding Huitt-Zollars’ rail and transit presence in Texas while supporting strategic rail opportunities across the firm’s national markets.

Duties:

• Lead business development and strategic growth initiatives across freight rail, industrial rail, commuter rail, and light rail markets.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with freight railroads, industrial clients, transit agencies, public-sector clients, and rail industry partners.
• Identify and develop new clients, project opportunities, strategic partnerships, and teaming relationships.

• Recruit, mentor, and develop rail professionals and help build the firm's rail capabilities.

• Registered Professional Engineer (PE);

  Principal-in-Charge (PIC) Role Annual Performance Goals & Expectations:

  • Having a deep understanding of how your work and contributions as a co-owner add to Huitt-Zollars’ mission and core values.
  • Maintaining expected Effective Labor Multiplier (ELM) on sum of all associated projects.
  • Ensure direct reports meet established utilization targets.
  • Consistently upholds business processes including timely monthly A/R’s, invoicing, timekeeping, resource forecasting, percent completes, etc.
  • Achieves personal sales goal.
  • Achieves stated target personal utilization goal for PIC.
  • Understands, follows and ensures quality control measures and risk management measures are being applied and adhered to projects and daily operations.

  Physical Requirements:

  The Dallas, TX location is in a 'Class A' office space including a state-of-the-art gym (no cost), covered parking, food court, and more.
