Job description

Global Financial Institutions Group (GFIG) covers financial institutions which is an important client segment and a key strategic growth area for Asia Pacific (APAC) and for the Global Banking Unit of SMBC. Clients include local, regional and universal banks, asset management companies, insurance companies, broker-dealers, wealth managers, sovereign wealth funds in the APAC region. The segment offers significant potential to capture banking wallet across a range of products.

GFIG APAC in Singapore is seeking a highly motivated individual for a planning manager to administer and enhance the department’s performance by organizing and analyzing data, creating reports, planning our strategy, supporting RMs and so on, to expand our business and maximize the department’s performance.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage the department’s performance by planning strategy, support for RMs, analyzing data and so on, to expand our business and maximize the profit and profitability with designated resources.
  • Manage planning matters (financial performance, KPIs etc.) of GFIG APAC and keep them updated in an appropriate way.
  • Maintain and analyze GFIG APAC’s data such as profit, expense, assets (resources) usage, deposit and profitability, and give opinions and advice to management / team to help achieve budget and targets.
  • Support management on various tasks including regular update to senior management and planning departments in APAC and GFIG Tokyo.
  • Make business promotion plans, in cooperation with other members, such as ESG related business, Cross-selling and Sales & Trade initiatives, to diversify and expand GFIG APAC’s business.
  • Drive, support and monitor execution of GFIG APAC’s strategy to progress in planned timelines with appropriate deliverables.
  • Collaborate and negotiate with relevant departments including SMBC’s Head Office, GFIG Tokyo and other offices globally, on various matters, such as, planning matters, to diversify, expand and implement initiatives of GFIG APAC’s business.

Job Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, banking & finance or equivalent in the similar field.
  • At least 3-5 years of relevant experience as a planning officer with international banks / major financial institutions.
  • Good working knowledge of banking products such as loans syndications, transaction banking, global markets, liability management, derivatives and swaps, debt capital markets products, structured deposit products etc.
  • Strong understanding of planning matters and processes (managing financial performance, KPIs etc.) of a marketing department of a financial institution / a bank.
  • Good communication skills in English and proficiency in Japanese is highly preferred as this role requires communication with our Head Office in Tokyo in Japanese. The role also requires briefing and presentation that are conducted in Japanese.
  • Advanced skill in PC and software such as Word, Excel (including macros) and Power Point.
  • Good understanding of the regulatory and compliance environment in the APAC markets.
  • Proactive and a Team Player who has worked in large complex matrix organizations. Good to be able to coordinate and manage stakeholders and client oriented.
