Where You Fit
This SVP level role consists of three primary areas of responsibility: CAP/CLIA Lab Medical Director, Leadership of Pathology Function, Clinical Development Services, and Support of Business Development. These areas of responsibility are described in greater detail below.
What You’ll Do
CAP/CLIA Lab Medical Director
- Develop and maintain an effective working relationship with laboratory management.
- Actively participate in lab operations meetings.
- Assist in setting goals, objectives, policies and procedures for the lab.
- Ensure that the laboratory monitors and evaluates the quality and appropriateness of services rendered within the context of the laboratory quality assurance program.
- Ensure that pathology laboratory complies with all current accreditation and regulatory agencies such as CAP, CLIA, FDA, etc.
- Ensure that the laboratory maintains a constant state of inspection readiness and is prepared for unannounced inspections by accrediting agencies.
- Advise in the acquisition of capital equipment.
- Assist in the interpretation and correlation of laboratory data for patient management.
- Assess requests for new technologies, assays, or equipment for their clinical utility, cost, and workflow.
Medical Staff Management
- Coach, lead, and develop direct reports. Manage hiring, staffing, training, performance, and terminations.
- Serve as a liaison between the medical staff and lab operations.
- Ensure sufficient qualified personnel with documented training to meet workload demands.
- Interview candidates for management and supervisory positions.
- Measure and manage key performance metrics to drive operational effectiveness.
- Ensure Pathologists have sufficient experience and expertise to lead their sections.
- Support medical staff as an integrated team demonstrating leadership and team qualities.
- Establish short and long-term goals and allocate resources accordingly.
- Provide cost-effective administration of all laboratory services.
- Provide educational direction for medical and laboratory staff.
- Communicate effectively with accrediting, licensing, and regulatory bodies.
- Meet with clients, potential clients, and attend conferences on behalf of PathAI Dx as needed.
Pathology
- Oversee PathAI’s pathology functions including support for clinical trials, product development, and translational science.
- Support end-to-end trial work.
Clinical Development Services
- Oversee PathAI’s clinical development services, including clinical operations and biopharma wet lab capabilities.
- Collaborate with VP of Product and Biopharma strategy leaders to generate insights, market mapping, pricing, positioning, and collateral for biomarker laboratory products.
- Use expertise and market data to inform platform choices, validation strategies, and operational decisions to grow biopharma wet lab capabilities.
- Oversee operations of biopharma services laboratories.
- Interface with biopharmaceutical clients and support business development efforts.
- Support initiatives like CDx development, translational research, and digital biomarker services.
- Engage with pharmaceutical companies and CROs to include PathAI products in drug development.
- Partner with senior stakeholders across pharma to drive success using AI-powered pathology tools.
- Provide insights to support strategic and scientific value creation.
- Coordinate with marketing on initiatives and collateral.
- Develop compelling lab offerings for biopharma clients, including identifying necessary capabilities and partnerships.
What You Bring
- M.D. Pathologist with American Board of Pathology certification in anatomic pathology.
- 10 years of pathology practice experience across industry, academia, or private practice.
- Subspecialty training preferred, especially in dermatopathology, GI, GU, or GYN pathology.
- Experience managing and leading pathology teams.
- Strong familiarity with biomarkers and companion diagnostics, including PD-L1, HER2, etc.
- Knowledge of digital and AI pathology trends and their application in drug development and diagnostics.
- Experience validating RUO assays and digital pathology applications as LDTs in compliance with CAP/CLIA.
- Proven record of accomplishments, such as publications or patents.
- Leadership skills aligned with PathAI’s mission and values.
- Ability to work in diverse environments and coordinate cross-functional teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and regulations.
