The Vice President of Operations for Commercial HVAC will be a strategic leader responsible for overseeing all operational aspects related to the installation, maintenance, and servicing of HVAC equipment within commercial buildings across Illinois. This executive will drive operational excellence, optimize processes, ensure customer satisfaction, and contribute to the company's growth and profitability. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of commercial HVAC systems, strong leadership capabilities, and a proven track record of managing large-scale operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement operational strategies that align with the company's overall business objectives and growth targets for the commercial HVAC sector.
- Forecast operational needs, including staffing, equipment, and resources, to meet current and future demand.
- Identify and implement best practices to enhance operational efficiency, productivity, and quality across all installation and service functions.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to streamline workflows and reduce operational costs.
- Oversee all aspects of commercial HVAC equipment installation projects, from planning and scheduling to execution and commissioning, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Manage and optimize the commercial HVAC service department, including preventative maintenance programs, emergency repairs, and diagnostic services.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards, codes (e.g., ASHRAE, IMC, local building codes), safety regulations (OSHA), and environmental regulations.
- Implement and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for installation and service operations, taking corrective actions as needed.
- Manage inventory, procurement, and logistics for parts and equipment required for both installation and service.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of operations managers, project managers, service managers, technicians, and administrative staff.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, excellence, and continuous learning within the operations team.
- Develop training programs and ensure ongoing professional development for all operational personnel.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and facilitate career growth opportunities for team members.
- Manage operational budgets, control expenses, and identify opportunities for cost savings.
- Work closely with finance to ensure accurate project costing, billing, and revenue recognition.
- Contribute to the development of pricing strategies for installation and service contracts.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction by overseeing the quality of service delivery and responding promptly to customer feedback and concerns.
- Collaborate with sales and business development teams to support new business opportunities and maintain strong client relationships.
- Act as a point of escalation for complex operational issues with key clients.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies and software solutions to improve operational efficiency, such as field service management software, project management tools, and diagnostic technologies.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in commercial HVAC.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in operations management within the commercial HVAC industry, with a strong focus on installation and servicing.
- Proven experience in a senior leadership role (e.g., Director of Operations, VP of Operations).
- In-depth knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, controls, energy management, and building automation.
- Strong understanding of relevant codes, standards, and safety regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and manage large, diverse teams.
- Excellent strategic planning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong financial acumen and experience with budget management.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in project management software, CRM, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to travel periodically within Illinois as required.
