Job description

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who understands both the business and technical sides of Professional Services. The successful candidate will oversee a blended organization of Project Management and Engineering resources while taking ownership of utilization, profitability, resource management, project governance, and overall delivery performance. This is not a traditional administrative PMO position or a purely technical engineering leadership role. We are looking for a player-coach who can manage the economics of a Professional Services organization, earn the respect of technical engineers, work directly with customers, and implement the appropriate level of operational structure for a growing business.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Professional Services organization across Project Management and Engineering
  • Own Professional Services P&L performance, gross profitability, utilization, and delivery metrics
  • Manage engineering resource allocation across active projects, support engagements, and pre-sales activities
  • Manage project and program economics, including hours, rate cards, margins, forecasting, and resource capacity
  • Establish and maintain utilization targets and reporting across the engineering organization
  • Develop capacity forecasts to support hiring, subcontracting, and resource allocation decisions
  • Continue to mature the company's PMO and standardized project delivery processes
  • Establish effective project governance, milestone tracking, scope/change management, and delivery reporting
  • Partner with Sales and Engineering during the scoping and SOW process to protect delivery quality and project margins
  • Act as an executive escalation point for key customer engagements and delivery challenges
  • Manage and develop a combination of Project Managers, engineering resources, and external contractors
  • Build reporting and KPI visibility for executive leadership around utilization, profitability, backlog, project health, and delivery performance
  • Identify opportunities to expand existing customer relationships through successful delivery and additional Professional Services engagements
What We're Looking For
  • 7+ years of leadership experience within Professional Services, Service Delivery, Consulting Services, or a similar technology services organization
  • Experience within a VAR, MSP, Systems Integrator, cybersecurity, network infrastructure, or technology engineering/services organization strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ownership of a Professional Services P&L and gross profitability
  • Deep understanding of billable utilization, including how utilization is calculated, measured, reported, and improved
  • Experience managing the financial performance of individual projects and broader service programs
  • Experience leading both Project Management and technical Engineering resources
  • Proven ability to manage resource allocation and capacity across multiple concurrent customer engagements
  • Experience building, implementing, or maturing PMO and project governance processes
  • Understanding of fixed-price and T&M engagement models, including the relationship between scoping, utilization, rate cards, and project margins
  • Experience working with PSA, ERP, CRM, and/or project management platforms
  • Strong customer-facing presence with experience managing executive relationships and delivery escalations
  • Enough technical understanding to effectively lead engineers and participate in customer discussions without needing to be a hands-on architect
  • Comfortable working within a lean, entrepreneurial, player-coach environment
Preferred Background (Experience in one or more of the following areas would be particularly valuable):
  • Cybersecurity Professional Services
  • Network and infrastructure engineering
  • Managed Services
  • Enterprise technology integration
  • Higher Education / SLED environments
  • Government contracting and contract vehicles
  • Technology manufacturer and channel-partner ecosystems
