Job description

Vice President of Philanthropic Engagement

Full-Time Position | Based in New York City (4 Days in Office, 1 Remote)

The Jewish Funders Network works internationally with Jewish funders at the individual and collective levels to improve the quality of their giving and maximize their impact as they make the change they want to see in the world.

The VP of Philanthropic Engagement is responsible for developing and overseeing JFN’s member relationship and engagement strategies. This includes building relationships towards membership recruitment and retention, strategic thinking and goal setting, stewardship of membership systems, management of an international membership team, and working closely with the program team to ensure robust programmatic and educational offerings which speak to the needs of members and prospects. In addition, The VP cultivates new connections between members, enhancing the value proposition and membership experience towards strengthening the network’s overall impact on the Jewish world. As senior staff, the VP of Philanthropic Engagement will work closely with the senior leadership team, the lay membership committee, and reports to the Executive Vice President.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement successful membership strategies for recruitment, retention and expansion of membership.
  • Increase membership revenue through dues and additional earned income strategies that meet the needs of our members.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a Members Stewardship System that allows JFN to know its members and increase their satisfaction by creating tailored services and programs.
  • Identify opportunities for JFN partnerships with and between members of the network including Member-to-Member customized introductions.
  • Identify and cultivate different segments within the JFN constituency; for example: geographic areas, interest groups, and peer networks.
  • Work alongside the Board Membership Committee to articulate JFN’s value proposition and mobilize the committee to support JFN in the growth of the network.

Membership Team Supervision and Cross Departmental Coordination

  • Supervise and support a team of professionals in the US and Israel tasked with relationship management, network weaving, program development, data management and record keeping.
  • In cooperation with the Communications Director and EVP, develop a comprehensive strategy for member and stakeholder communications.
  • In partnership with the Programs Department, develop, implement and evaluate engagement strategies and tailored programmatic offers for different cohorts within the JFN population, e.g. young funders, professionals, women, and Jewish Community Foundations.
  • In partnership with the Programs Department, develop learning opportunities and communities of practice around different aspects of philanthropic practice know-how, e.g. impact investment, evaluation, family philanthropy, general philanthropic literacy, grantee relationships, and collaboration.
  • Budget management and financial oversight of the Membership Department.

Systems/Infrastructure

  • Evaluation and implementation of membership tracking, and guides, policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the CRM.
  • Establish service operational standards and policies to deliver efficient services to members.

Qualifications:

  • A senior professional with a proven track record in recruitment, retention, and expansion of membership and revenue, and/or development.
  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities; commitment to being part of a dynamic team.
  • Proficiency in budgeting and financial management.
  • Experience with membership database and CRM software with ability to analyze and interpret membership data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Familiarity with membership marketing and communication techniques.
  • Excitement and knowledge about Jewish philanthropy and Jewish communal concerns.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, flexibility and ability to contribute to a positive workplace culture.
  • Familiarity with Israel and proficiency in Hebrew a plus.
  • Willing to travel a few days at a time approximately every other month, both domestically and internationally.
