Hiring a remote Vice President of Medical Affairs

  • Currently have a board certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine by a medical specialty board approved by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or another board recognized by URAC.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic leader to join our team as the Vice President of Medical Affairs. In this executive role, you will provide strategic direction and leadership to our medical review operations, overseeing a team of medical directors and staff. Your role will be crucial in ensuring the delivery of efficient, timely, and clinically sound review services.

The Vice President of Medical Affairs is a strategic leader responsible for the overall direction and performance of medical review operations. This executive will provide visionary leadership, drive operational excellence, and ensure the delivery of high-quality, compliant medical review services. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the healthcare industry, strong clinical expertise, and exceptional leadership abilities.

Qualifications:

  • MD or DO degree with board certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.
  • Current and unrestricted medical license as required for clinical practice in a state of the United States.
  • 7 (Seven) or more years of leadership experience in a medical review or utilization management role.
  • Minimum of 5 (five) years of clinical practice experience.
  • Proven track record in driving operational efficiency and improving quality.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience managing budgets.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

Develop and implement a long-term vision for medical review operations aligned with organizational goals.

Conduct market analysis and competitor assessments to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.

Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the medical review team.

Operational Excellence:

Optimize operational efficiency and productivity through process improvement initiatives.

Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and track performance.

Oversee budget development and management for the medical review department.

Clinical Oversight:

Ensure adherence to clinical guidelines, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

Conduct regular quality audits and reviews to identify areas for improvement.

Collaborate with clinical experts to develop and maintain evidence-based clinical policies and procedures.

Recruit, develop, and retain top talent within the medical review team.

Provide mentorship and coaching to medical directors and staff.

Foster a collaborative and high-performing work environment.

Client Relations:

Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients.

Understand client needs and develop customized solutions to meet their expectations.

Serve as a trusted advisor to clients on medical review matters.

Regulatory Compliance:

Stay informed about healthcare regulations and industry trends.

Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and accreditation standards.

Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to minimize compliance risks.

Approx 20% of time spent in the production of Utilization Management cases
