Job description

Vice President of Energy Strategy

Location: Remote, USA (Nationwide)

Company Overview

A groundbreaking developer in the AI infrastructure sector is scaling at unprecedented speed, creating the next generation of high-density, high-efficiency data centers across North America and Europe. With a dynamic team drawn from leading technology giants, we are at the cutting edge of power delivery, sustainable cooling technologies, and capital investment strategies. As demand for AI infrastructure skyrockets, this innovative organization is assembling a portfolio of next-gen facilities that will define the future of computing.

Position Overview

We are seeking an influential and highly strategic Vice President of Energy Strategy to lead site acquisition and large-scale power procurement initiatives essential for our ambitious AI data center development goals. This is a high-impact, executive-level role focused on building the foundational assets - land and power- that fuel cutting-edge, energy-intensive facilities.

In this position, you’ll blend strategic thinking, technical expertise, and business acumen to drive the identification, evaluation, acquisition, and preparation of future AI data center sites. Your success will directly empower the growth of a company at the epicenter of the AI revolution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Site Strategy and Selection: Develop and execute a national (and potentially international) site acquisition strategy targeting locations with scalable and reliable access to major power infrastructure.
  • Power Procurement Leadership:
    • Analyze transmission capacity, substation proximity, and grid scalability at prospective sites.
    • Build trusted relationships with utility providers to negotiate large-scale interconnection agreements (hundreds of MW to gigawatt scale).
    • Lead or support major power procurement agreements and negotiations.
  • Land Acquisition Expertise:
    • Manage the full lifecycle of land acquisitions—from LOI to Purchase and Sale Agreement (PSA) through closing.
    • Oversee all due diligence efforts: environmental assessments, title reviews, zoning compliance, geotechnical analysis, and fiber connectivity evaluations.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Forge and nurture relationships with landowners, developers, utilities, government agencies, and real estate brokers.
  • Financial and Commercial Analysis: Evaluate economic viability, including cost of land, infrastructure improvements, permitting, and development timelines; support complex deal negotiations.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal engineering, finance, legal, and executive leadership to ensure site feasibility and optimize strategic decisions.
  • Market Intelligence: Monitor trends in land valuation, power costs, and regulatory frameworks to inform proactive site strategies.
  • Pipeline Development: Establish and maintain a robust pipeline of viable land and energy opportunities to support aggressive company growth targets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred), Business, Real Estate, Urban Planning, or a related discipline. Advanced degree (MBA, JD, MS) highly desirable.
  • 7+ years of proven success in land acquisition and energy strategy, preferably supporting data center, utility-scale renewable energy, or large industrial infrastructure projects.
  • Deep expertise in utility engagement, high-load interconnections, transmission infrastructure, and power delivery negotiations.
  • Demonstrated track record of closing complex land transactions and navigating full due diligence cycles.
  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to evaluate project viability, negotiate complex agreements, and develop strategic business cases.
  • Highly effective communicator and negotiator across a wide range of stakeholders including utilities, landowners, and regulatory agencies.
  • Self-motivated and adaptable, thriving in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Willingness to travel extensively across the U.S. (and possibly internationally) as project needs dictate.

Preferred Attributes

  • Established network within major U.S. utility companies and familiarity with interconnection processes.
  • Experience acquiring and permitting sites for Hyperscale data center projects.
  • Familiarity with international site selection, particularly in Europe.
  • Knowledge of zoning, entitlement, and permitting processes for large-scale development.

Why Apply?

  • Shape the future of AI-driven infrastructure at a company set to lead the global market.
  • Join a team of world-class experts in data center engineering, development, and investment.
  • Competitive compensation package with significant upside, including performance-based incentives and potential equity participation.
  • High-impact role with unparalleled growth potential in a rapidly expanding organization.
