Position Summary

AugmentED, an AERDF-supported AI and education initiative, is seeking an education technology leader to serve as its first Vice President of Education Innovation and Partnerships. The individual in this role will be responsible for developing and leading efforts to recruit and train educators for AugmentED’s R&D efforts, build and manage cross-disciplinary R&D teams, establish networks of teams organized around common education goals, and ultimately codify and share with the education field the AI-powered tools and innovative pedagogical approaches the teams and networks create.

This role requires visionary leadership, thoughtful strategy development, exceptional relationship and team building skills, broad and current knowledge of curricula, standards, and instruction, including effective practices in edtech integration, and extensive experience facilitating co-design initiatives that bring together educators, researchers and, technologists to develop solutions that address the strengths and needs of Black, Latinx, and Indigenous learners, and students experiencing poverty.

Core Responsibilities

Vision and Strategy Development

  • Co-design and drive a strategy that enables the AugmentED team to achieve its goals related to educator recruitment, engagement, and capacity building
  • Embed emerging technologies, research, inclusive design, educational networks, and field-based implementation and iteration as core pillars of the strategic vision
  • Co-create a coherent theory of action and logic model with clear strategic priorities and success metrics aligned to program goals and values
  • Anticipate and respond to shifts in the education and technology landscapes, particularly related to the ethical integration of AI and emerging tools in learning environments

Educator Engagement

  • Build strong, positive relationships with education leaders in participating schools and districts to create the conditions for equity-focused, AI-powered innovation
  • Manage the recruitment and onboarding of classroom educators to engage as members of cross-functional R&D teams
  • Partner with team members to provide professional learning and ongoing support to educators to build their AI literacy and foundational skills as well as proficiency in inclusive co-design methodologies and effective implementation of educational technologies
  • Design and regularly host team and community building activities to foster cross-team and cross-network relationship building, sharing, and collaborative learning
  • Collaborate with research leads to document and share insights about promising uses of AI for teaching and learning, evolving educator roles, and R&D infrastructure
  • Develop and disseminate tools and systems that encourage educators to explore and document innovative pedagogical approaches that leverage AI tools to enhance student engagement, personalized learning, and skill development

Operations and Program Leadership

  • Design and operationalize mechanisms for setting, communicating, achieving, and tracking clear goals and metrics at the program level and within and across project teams and networks
  • Ensure the quality and timeliness of all project-related deliverables and documentation
  • In collaboration with other leads, manage the coordination of data collection, analysis, and reporting
  • In collaboration with other leads, manage the project budget including ongoing budget reporting
  • Participate in funder meetings and prepare reports and proposals to meet funder requirements and document program performance
  • Establish and implement systems for continuous improvement of project activities

Field Engagement and Thought Leadership

  • Serve as a national thought leader on inclusive education R&D
  • Advance public understanding of the responsible, human-centered use of AI and emerging technologies in education
  • Foster and maintain relationships with nonprofits, technology vendors, research institutions, and industry experts to stay informed about emerging technologies and potential collaboration opportunities

Qualifications

  • Education: A master's or higher degree in Education, Educational Technology, Instructional Design, Computer Science, or a related field or equivalent expertise gained through experience. A background in both education and technology is preferred
  • Experience: A minimum of 10 years of experience in a leadership role related to educational technology, ideally with an edtech solution provider, with a proven track record of successfully implementing technology-driven initiatives
  • Innovation: Demonstrated ability to envision and lead the adoption of innovative education technologies and practices
  • Team Management: 7+ years track record of building and managing multi-functional teams to results, and of coaching and developing direct reports
  • Project Management: Strong project management skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage budgets, and deliver results on time
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Collaboration: Proven ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams, including educators, designers, developers, and administrators
  • Strategic Thinking and Planning: Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and execute long-term technology integration strategies
  • Data-Driven: Experience using data and analytics to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement
  • Passion: A deep passion for education, technology, and the potential of their intersection to transform learning experiences
  • Leadership: Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire, mentor, and guide a team toward achieving common goals
  • Flexibility: Adaptability to evolving technologies and trends in the rapidly changing EdTech landscape
