The Vice President of Business Development is responsible for driving strategic growth initiatives focused on expanding market presence, revenue and profitability for the organization. This role focuses on identifying new market opportunities, forging strategic partnerships, and leading cross-functional teams to expand the organization’s footprint and revenue. This position requires collaboration across all functions and the ability to execute strategies that align with organizational goals. The ideal candidate brings deep industry knowledge, a solid network, and a proven track record of success in both healthcare and finance.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead the growth, vision, strategy, plans, and processes that increase revenue, expand markets, and accomplish financial objectives for the Bank and Optum Financial
  • Responsibility for leading the strategy and execution of the B2B2C credit expansion into new verticals for Proceed Finance, Optum Bank and Optum Financial Commercial (Provider Business)
  • Provide leadership to a business development team, while fostering a culture of accountability, professional development, high-performance, and continuous improvement
  • Align team goals with organizational objectives and ensure continuous professional development
  • Identify and evaluate new markets, customer segments, and partnership opportunities that include various segments such as commercial, consumer, small business lending, and equipment leasingfor the Bank and Optum Financial
  • Analyze and understand key market trends and their implications to the Bank and Optum Financial
  • Conduct market assessments and model total addressable market and specific strategic decision pathways, including researching target markets, understanding financial metrics, developing strategic rationale and performing competitive benchmarking
  • Identify emerging trends, regulatory shifts, and technological innovations to inform strategic planning
  • Leverage data-driven insights to optimize marketing, sales, and operational processes for enhanced growth and efficiency
  • Seek out and source new clients by developing networks and independently identifying and developing relevant resources for business development related to new products and verticals
  • Creation and execution of complex business plans for entrance into new verticals
  • Drive product innovation and development initiatives to meet customer needs and stay ahead of competitors
  • Establish new partnerships and alliances to drive growth and market penetration through development of new products for consumer and commercial segments of the Bank and Optum Financial
  • Build and maintain solid relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, partners, investors, and internal teams
  • Establish KPIs and reporting frameworks to measure the effectiveness of business development initiatives
  • Collaborate with finance, marketing, and product teams to align business development efforts with organizational capabilities
  • Lead, coordinate, and provide strategic support to cross-functional teams in executing growth plans
  • Work closely with other senior executives to drive operational initiatives and enhance credit underwriting models that maximize value for products and align with the overall company strategy
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and train new team members as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned or necessary

Required Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience in a leadership role in business development or client relationship management
  • 8+ years of experience working with senior executives of financial institutions and various partner organizations
  • 5+ years of experience in consumer and financial services

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success in strategic planning, execution, business development and partnerships
  • Exceptional relationship management skills and the ability to build and grow connections
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead transformational change including developing vision, end state, and strategy/roadmap to reach the end state
  • Exhibited success in leading teams and executing complex growth strategies
  • Ability and willingness to work and collaborate in a team environment

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you’ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $132,200 to $226,600 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
