As Vice President, National Medical Director (East Region), you will serve as a senior clinical leader at Marathon Health, responsible for advancing population health strategy and overseeing clinical operations across almost 400 clinics in the Eastern US. This role offers a unique opportunity to drive regional performance while shaping the future of primary care delivery at scale.

You will lead and develop a high-performing team of Regional Medical Directors, ensuring they are equipped to support provider engagement, quality performance, and clinical innovation. As a key executive partner to operations, product, analytics, and growth leaders, you will play a pivotal role in aligning clinical excellence with measurable outcomes for our clients.

This role is open to licensed and experienced physicians (MD/DO), nurse practitioners (NP), or physician assistants (PA) who bring deep clinical knowledge of primary care medicine, proven leadership skills, and a passion for transforming care.

Note: the successful candidate must be willing to practice in one of Marathon Health’s 730 clinics across 42 states or on our virtual platform one day per week if not physically proximate to a current clinic.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Clinical Excellence

  • Advance Marathon Health’s population health strategy by integrating risk stratification, chronic disease management, and proactive care models into clinical workflows
  • Lead the regional implementation and sustainment of clinical pathways, evidence-based clinical programs, clinical policy and SOPs to continuously improve outcomes
  • Collaborate with product, analytics, and quality teams to turn data into action—closing quality gaps, improving outcomes, and enhancing patient experience
  • Shape new care delivery innovations that promote access, equity, and whole-person care

Regional Oversight & Operational Partnership

  • Provide clinical leadership across the East Region in partnership with operational dyads
  • Lead the development, coaching, and performance oversight of Regional Medical Directors
  • Ensure regional teams are aligned with organizational standards for quality, patient safety, and provider accountability
  • Act as a senior escalation point for complex clinical or client issues

Provider Engagement & Development

  • Support and guide provider performance management, including onboarding, mentorship, development, and, when necessary, improvement planning
  • Build a culture of clinical excellence, joy in practice, and continuous learning across the provider workforce
  • Partner with the Medical Education team to address training needs and support professional growth

Client Engagement & Market Readiness

  • Serve as a clinical ambassador in support of new client acquisition and retention efforts, particularly for high-priority accounts
  • Represent the clinical value of Marathon Health’s model in client meetings, executive briefings, and industry forums
  • Collaborate with Sales, Growth, and Market Operations leaders to ensure readiness for new market launches and client-specific clinical needs

Quality, Safety, and Pathways

  • Ensure adherence to clinical standards, quality goals, and safety protocols across the region
  • Translate system-wide clinical priorities into local action plans that drive measurable improvement
  • Lead regional execution of new clinical programs and care models with consistent fidelity to best practice.

Qualifications:

  • Physician (MD or DO), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Physician Assistant (PA) with active licensure and national certification
  • Minimum 10 years of clinical practice experience and at least 5 years in a leadership or administrative capacity
  • Proven success in leading multi-site or regional clinical operations, preferably in a value-based or advanced primary care setting
  • Deep knowledge of population health strategies, quality improvement, and provider development
  • Strong communication and client-facing skills, with experience representing clinical strategy to external stakeholders
  • Willingness to travel across assigned markets and nationally as needed (estimate 30%)
Pay Range:
MD/DO Candidate: $250,000 - $300,000/yr
APP Candidate: $170,000 - $225,000/yr
