Role :
The Deputy General Counsel plays a critical leadership role in supporting the General Counsel in overseeing all legal matters for the credit union. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, this position provides strategic legal counsel to executive leadership and the Board, ensuring regulatory compliance and sound governance practices. The VP will work closely with the VP of Risk Management and the VP of Compliance, providing legal guidance to their teams. This role will also lead efforts in contract negotiation, risk mitigation, regulatory oversight, and legal policy development, while managing internal and external legal resources. As the organization evolves, this role may expand to oversee teams in legal, risk, and vendor management.
Location : Our headquarters are based in Syracuse, NY. We work in a Hybrid Model requiring a minimum of 5 days in office per month.

Knowledge and Skills :
Experience : A minimum of 10 years of legal experience, with at least 5 years in a senior or leadership role, preferably in financial services or a regulated industry.
Education : A Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school is required. An active license to practice law in New York State or eligibility for in-house counsel registration is also required.
Interpersonal Skills : Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is of a personal or sensitive nature. Motivating, influencing, and / or training others is key at this level. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and / or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and / or sell ideas or services to others.
